At Minnesota Capitol, support for guns is deeply ingrained
Lawmakers cite strong gun rights tradition, say any restrictions will stall.

"The e-mails are 120 to 1 not to touch the gun laws," said Rep. Brian Johnson, R-Cambridge, a retired police officer who chairs the House Public Safety Committee, making him a key lawmaker on the issue. Earlier in March, when a DFL representative used some arcane legislative maneuvering to force a hearing on two gun control measures in his committee, Johnson said he received 2,000 e-mails urging him to stand firm.

Keep it up!

I should hope so.

The article should be titled something like, "Support to infringe on constitutional rights found to be weak"

Lets hope that HF1669 and 1605 stay tabled and die in the committee .
I emailed both parties on the committee again this morning.

FB posts by MN Gun Owners Caucus:

Rep. Pinto's motion to move the Gun Violence Restraining Order bill off the table in House Public Safety has failed 10-6.

The votes remained the same as the March 1st, 2018 Public Safety Committee Hearing.

Rep. Pinto's motion to try and bring Universal Background Checks off the table failed by a vote of 9-7 with the same Representatives voting the same way as the March 1st, 2018 Public Safety Committee Hearing.

This is a good outcome but those margins are too close for comfort. Smart folks need to find a way to change the focus of all this national angst from guns to the bad people committing the carnage.

THe House Public Safety COmmittee is full of metro DFLers that are all anti-gun. Fortunately, right now the GOP has control.
