Trump condemns ‘white supremacy,’ calls for mental health and gun reforms after double mass shootings
President Trump called Monday for reforms at the intersection of mental health and gun laws -- including so-called "red flag laws" to take guns from those deemed a public risk -- in the wake of back-to-back mass shootings over the weekend that left at least 29 people dead.

Doesn't surprise me. I think if due process is introduced, it would be hard to argue. Go ahead and post "SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED!!!!!!!"

John Q. Public will agree with Red flag.

I don't see a realistic scenario without it.

What would you propose?

Maybe, just maybe, there will be real action, people will get involved instead of leaning on the Second Amendment language and posting opinions on the interwebz. The Second Amendment has already been infringed, so obviously that ship has sailed. It will take real effort to stem the futher erosion......

The Left needs and wants people dependent on them.

Why do people decide to do these horrific acts? Fix the bad people. Fix society because it grows these bad people. Only by fixing the people can we change the outcomes.

So the post I was responding to was a call to action. What specifically are you proposing an individual person is to do?

I think a disarmed populace is dependent on the government for protection. :)

If you remove from people any ability to defend themselves, they'll vote in a police state for their own protection.

Raise your children right. Teach them values. Make them understand that their actions impact others. Put structure in their lives. Pay attention to them and see when they are having problems and be proactive in helping them. Fixing society starts at home. I suspect too many children don't have that type of influence in their lives and that contributes. No, it is not the only problem but it is a major piece. Social media is another thing but I don't have specific action items, just a realization that mass anonymized venues to state your opinions are a path in the wrong direction.

Let's see, in a CNN article, the Dayton shooter's ex-girlfriend says, He was bipolar, was fascinated by mass shootings, thought about hurting himself, thought about hurting others, had guns, and believed mentally ill people shouldn't have guns. She also broke up with him because he wanted her to help deliver threatening letters to an ex-girlfriend.... and she broke up via text because she was afraid of how he would react...

"I'm not shocked he did something horrific, because he had untreated problems and there were so many things and there are so many things that people aren't going to know."

Too bad nobody saw this coming......

In light of my prior post... I have to ask... At what point do we think it would be appropriate to report someone? How many red flags/warning signs would you have to see before you decided a person was a threat to others?

Personally, I think it is an uncomfortable question. Like the GF before, we rationalize people's behavior. We think they really wouldn't do that! And also, I think freedom-oriented people would tend to err on the side of "leaving them the Hell alone".
