Personally, I think it is an uncomfortable question. Like the GF before, we rationalize people's behavior. We think they really wouldn't do that! And also, I think freedom-oriented people would tend to err on the side of "leaving them the Hell alone".

Exactly. I don't like the idea of taking action against someone for a "pre-crime", but some of these shooters were pretty obviously messed up.

I do not have answers, but the same questions.

I don’t know that threatening Trump would be a successful strategy. Much better to educate him.

He is a pragmatist not an idealog. To anyone that isn't a hardcore 2A defender, there appears to be a problem to solve. SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED doesn't mean anything to John Q Public who has been agitated, by design, with the reports of the GUN VIOLENCE.

People just hear "background checks" or "stopping the mentally ill from having guns" and think ya those are good things. They just don' t get that the devil is in the details and the road to hell is paved with good intentions...

^^^^^^

I don't think we are going to have many politicians willing to oppose RF and UBC. We can either be in on the crafting of the legislation to make it somewhat better or scream "Shall not be infringed" and have it stuffed down our throats. The NRA is wounded right now and is going to be of minimal help.

Liberal radio are now, magically, huge advocates for Trump's leadership. Pretty funny to hear the conflict in the message - they are obviously not comfortable speaking positively about Donald Trump, but they need him here, so they will grit there teeth........

The wrong question is being asked. Instead of wondering how we can identify people who are about to commit horrible crimes we should be seeking ways to fix society so that we don't have people who are on the verge of committing horrible crimes. It's not an easy question and I'm sure there are no easy answers. But the right way to alleviate the issue is by going for the root cause instead of catching folks just before they break.

I've always said that if we could just switch the conversation to the above we'd have near-unamimous support from all sides instead of 50/50 diametrically opposed. Wouldn't it be nice if we could get out of the fight and work together?

Sure, but each side thinks the other is responsible for the situation . Hard to get beyond that.
