Par for the course.
They needed a "new" law to take care of a problem that the old law would have handled, and it sounds like they weakened civil liberties doing so.
From what has been said, this is not the test case for red flag laws, as much as the guy probably would like gun owners to rise up in righteous indignation and help him out.
Nationally, the VA situation is a bigger fish to fry.
