Colon cancer is no joke. I never met my grandfather because of colon cancer (he passed when my mother was 7). I'm still over a decade from the age where they recommend first routine screening and I have already outlived my grandfather by 7 years (and I've been 'scoped thrice). If you have any family history and/or are past the routine screening age, get checked. The clean-out sucks (if they prescribe "go-lytely" ask for the "gatoraid-mirilax" prep - so much easier to drink). The hard part of the clean-out is only like 12 or 16 hours before the procedure so suck-it-up-buttercup. My first procedure was quick and absolutely painless. My second procedure was slow and painful, but a LOT quicker and less painful than dying from colon cancer (turns out Fentanyl doesn't work on me). My third procedure was again quick & painless (because they used a different anesthesia that was like turning me off and back on again 40 minutes later). For my 3rd procedure they also used CO2 to inflate my colon instead of regular air which meant little or no gas after the procedure. After every procedure I'm hangry so I find the biggest burger within 10 minutes of the clinic and disregard all medical advice about taking it easy on food for the rest of the day.
