War gaming unrealistic situations is what a general staff does.
I have no issues with them planning for various contingencies.
On the other hand, actual field exercises cost money and can get troops hurt. Those should stick with likely threats that the military can face.
Heck, if we had better plans for the assault in the sandbox, maybe it wouldn’t have been such a cluster- what do you do with the POW’s? What are your occupation plans (letting each household keep a couple pistols and an AK? Sounds silly to me…)
I think that if push came to shove, the Washington overlords might be surprised with what the military would do. Knowing that might get a bit of sanity out there…
