Man accidentally shoots himself getting corn out of boot at corn maze - TwinCities.com

A 38-year-old man accidentally shot himself in the upper leg while at a Brooklyn Park corn maze on Saturday morning, police said....

...The man had been near the corn pit — a pile of shelled corn akin to a sandbox — and was bending over at the waist removing corn from his boot when the firearm he was carrying on his hip discharged, according to a press release from the Brooklyn Park Police Department.

Detectives are still working to determine why the firearm discharged.

The man was taken to the hospital.

Police say he had a valid permit to carry and was legally carrying the firearm. No other injuries or property damage was reported. The festival resumed normal operation after the incident.

Yup, unless he was carrying without a holster or with an open trigger guard area. Chances are he was "adjusting".......

Your 1911 goes off without pulling the trigger? You might want to get that checked out.

I’m thinking some sort of generic holster. # 4 holster fits 4 to 6 different gun manufacturers and a few from each one. Uncle————s comes too mind.

Even uncle mikes cover the trigger. Most guns can’t go off unless something pulls the bang switch.

It definitely is sad and tragic and yeah, the anti-gun folk will point to it to make a point but they should not be allowed to taint all gun owners because of this.

Here's some recent law enforcement folk having problems too during their own training sessions with each other.

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection firearms instructor conducting a course was accidentally shot and killed at a west Miami-Dade gun range October 19, 2022.

Here's one from August, 2022 about an accident in Washington D.C. during a training session that was supposed to be about ASP batons. Still a lot of questions to be answered about this.

It's just way too easy for the anti-gun folk to point to an incident and say 'if there were no guns there would be no gun accidents' and this is unrealistic and ignores the real world we all live in.

We can always get rid of cars and go back to horse and buggy too. Of course after the first horse accident….

How about banning hammers after the reported assault of Paul Pelosi in his SF home. Common sense hammer control is long overdue.

Only if they are 16 oz or more, apartment sized hammers are still ok unless they are in tactical black rubber handles.

We can't ban all hammers because of one attack, just whatever kind it was for now. Ball peen, claw, etc etc and ban the rest later.

It's only a matter of time before someone makes a hammer using a rock, or even worse. 3d printed hammers without any identifying unique numbers.
