I wouldn't venture that far off topic. Let's just settle at admitting the fact the original referenced article is a piece of emotional propaganda, not quite up to the high standard you say the site has in general.

From a pathological point of view, autoerotic asphyxiation is not an uncommon form of suicide.

Depends on the state.

Suicide is death by your own action. Autoerotic asphyxiation is death by your own act. It may not be deliberate, but you intended to cut blood flow to your brain.

Often they claim accidental to spare the family, but it’s a big deal re insurance.
