MN: Home invasion

Postby tweener on Thu Jul 30, 2009 10:05 pm

All I can say is WOW. Got a call this am informing me that someone I know fairly well, was sitting down for dinner last night with 3 other people, when the door poped open and masked gun men entered and ordered them to the floor,a nd took their valuables.

Mpls, North side......

pretty crazy stuff....

I am glad the intruders just wanted the quick and EZ valuables, and let my friends escape with thier lives.....I think they might be moving a little more towrd the "pro-gun" side of polotics after this incident. I told them to get training, and then a gun. I hope they follow thru....

No...the doors were not locked, as they were grilling, and were walking in and out of the house to the grill....and had just brought in the food, and were getting ready to sit down.

Personally I do not believe that training and a gun would have helped in general because it seems that one of the common beliefs amongst many permit holders is;
either I don't wear a gun at home or when I come home I put my gun into the bedside safe cause I got kids..........

Folks, this is a great example of why self defense is a full time 7/24 job......
You are not the one to pick the who, when, and how.........

IF you do not have your gun with you in a ready condition all the time, you might as well sell it....
it is not a piece of jewelry or a fashion statement or I only carry when I'm going someplace questionable....
per this example, your home is questionable.....

Good luck out there..........

Yup. All day every day everywhere legally allowed is my philosophy.

Hopefully your acquaintances are ok besides lighter in possessions.

Yes, my friends are OK.....Shooken up (sp?) but ok......they spent an entire day fixing things....new locks (keys stolen) new keys for cars, new DL, cancel CC and get new, etc, etc, etc........I never even heard how much money or valuables they got.....that wasn't important......I never even thought to ask.......

As far as the carry everywhere goes.....

I had a instructor that I thought was pretty good, and he made an impresion on me.....about "if you are going to carry....you better carry...otherwise, don't even bother paying for the permit...."

First day I carried at home....My wife said that I should probabbly take it off, while playing with the kids and such.....I had a nice talk with her and explained that just because kidas are "around" guns, doesn't make it dangerous....In fact, on my hip WAS THE SAFEST place for my gun to be, while children are around. I also sent her to a pistol class...hoping she would start to come around to my way of thinking...which she has. She doesn't bat an eye now.....she knows, where ever I am, there will be a gun as well...

Not to start a flame war, but in our machismo let us not forget that everywhere and always isn't a place to draw the gun and start popping off rounds in self-defense. Sitting at the dinner table with the family and kids around--multiple gunmen break in suddenly....There may be situations like that where we might be able to imagine (barely) that it wouldn't be wise to start shooting, even with the gun on your hip. The old western shoot-outs are fun to watch on TV but..... remember that on TV and in the movies bullets don't go through glass and furniture (oh yeah, they might crack a window for effect, but they don't actually go through one!), and bystanders don't get hit and tragedy is averted and only the bad guys get killed in the end. Unfortunately in a crowded room with children and terrified family members doing unpredictable things and multiple gunmen pointing guns.... The more reactions you can have to any situation, the better prepared you can be. One reaction is not to draw and start shooting.
I do not believe in the collective wisdom of individual ignorance.

If you are carrying, you can choose not to draw. If you're not carrying, you have no choice.

Of course there are never any guarantees in a situation like this, but having the option - and the ability - to defend one's self and one's family is better than having no option at all. As always, your brain is your first & best weapon - everything else is simply a tool used to implement the best course of action available.

And if all of the adult friends / family sitting down for dinner happen to be carrying, that could be an even better option...

Are you suggesting that leaving a robbery, a robbery; and not turning it into a gunfight, might not be a bad idea! What a shocking idea! (Actually I'm with you on this one).

Actually you still have plenty of choices, just one less than you would have otherwise....

..not a flame war at all, I think most are not in disagreement with you,
no one said, including me, that just because you carry makes you the local vigilante.....
there are indeed times to walk, as well as times to engage....
each individual will make that determination at the time of the incident...............
