Welcome. I think you'll be relatively well supplied in all three areas.

Ever seen people drive cars and pickups onto frozen ponds and lakes for ice fishing? Wait a month or two, you'll see it.

The DNR Regulations book is a great place to start, and get questions answered. http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/rlp/index.html

Shooting sports I'm not an expert on, but locally (as in for Mnguntalk and the Carry Forum) we have a Steel shoot in the warmer months which are lots of fun (handgun shooting only). Trap, Skeet, 5 stand, and sporting clays can be found a lot of places fairly close for shotgunning. There are all kinds of pistol leagues around too, of which I'd like to get into soon myself.

Anyway, if you have the inclination to look around a bit, there is no shortage of things to do. Problem is, all it takes is money!

Welcome to MN from an Iowa native anyway!

Welcome.

Where are you located?

What shooting sports are you interested in?

(These should probably be standard questions for "newbies".)

I'm sure someone on this forum is near your location and shoots what you are interested in.

I shoot IPSC & IDPA (action pistol) in southern MN. Cowboy Action is big here too. Let me know. I can give you contacts for those.
Because I care, I carry.

Does anyone know a good meat n taters restaurant near plymouth or maybe where a southern boy can get a decent piece of fried chicken?

Try 3 Squares in Maple Grove. You'll love their meatloaf!

We also have a lot of Friday fish frys with potatoe salad and this winter you should be able to find the Scandinavian delicacy known as lutefisk - which means, literally, "cod soaked in plutonium" to fill you up. Welcome to MN!
