Pythagoras

Postby Pythagoras on Sun Feb 20, 2011 1:44 pm

Hello all. I'm new to this site. I live in the West metro area, manage a business by day, have a passion for teaching/tutoring Algebra, Geometry, Trig, and Calc by night. Enjoy snowmobiling, BWCA, Bass fishin'. Otherwise, just a happily married Dad. Trying to educate myself in Semi-auto's before possibly buying one. This looks like a good place to start. Hoping to go to an upcoming gun show - don't know much about them or how it works, but I'll find out.

Welcome to the board. You sound like a smart guy. You may have to dumb it down a shade for guys like me :(

As to the (bold added by me) highlighted sentence, no time like the present.

Are you interested in Semi-Auto:
A: Pistols?
B: Rifles?
C: Shotguns?

The correct answer is a write in answer of "D: All of the above." :gun:

Not much to how a show works. They charge admission ... $10 - $20, IIRC. They don't like ya wearin' loaded guns ... or otherwise carrying loaded guns ... but I've seen guys carry long-guns around, muzzle-up, with the price they want for it, on a stick in the muzzle, like a little flag. If ya wanna do that, I'd still have it in a case, when ya first come in.

Other than that, prices are usually higher than a good deal at local shops. But it's a good way to handle quite a few different guns, without too many of the sellers gettin' cranky about it.

Some of the sellers are actual dealers (licensed) ... some even have storefronts. Others are just guys lookin' to get rid of some stuff.

Most of the shows, they put the tables like 2ft apart, for folks to walk in both directions, AND stop and look at the stuff. And a lotta times there's a really bad smell lingering (see "Effin Gopher").

Awesome theorem, man, I use it all the time.

Gun shows are kinda fun, but you might learn as much at gun stores, without paying admission. Go when it's not busy and be up front about being a beginner in the first stages of shopping. Then go to another store and ask the same questions, 'cause some gun store employees know more than others, and even when they're knowledgeable they'll have different opinions. If they don't have gray hair, take anything they say with a grain of salt. Watch out for guys who shave their head to disguise the fact that they don't have gray hair.

Welcome Pythagoras, you'll find most people here square, and willing to give you the right angle on things. Some appear to be acute pains in the angle but are nice guys in person. Very few are obtuse. There are only rare individuals whose postings have an axis orthogonal to information, and they are easily kept in your nullspace....

Pythagoras, welcome.
Actually, the correct answer would be {Pistols}squared + {Rifles}squared = {Shotguns}squared
