A little something something

Postby Çatalhöyük on Wed Mar 23, 2011 9:15 am

Good Morning!

My name is Ryan, I live, work, and go to school in Duluth MN. I've been an on-and-off lurker of the site for 3 years now. I've always wanted my carry license and a hand gun however was too cheap / chicken to actually do it.

I go to the University of Minnesota - Duluth. I'm Majoring in History and Minoring in Mathematics. I want to be a teacher some day.

I work for a company called Community Connection of Minnesota. I work overnights at group homes for adults with traumatic brain injury and other like illnesses.

I'm a professional student, I graduated high school in 2005 and have been going to college ever since. I love to travel, I've been to 8 countries in Europe (UK, Spain, Italy, Monaco, Vatican City, Austria, Switzerland, and Lichtenstein; as well as New Zealand, Australia, and the majority of the 50 states. I love to travel.

I love movies, I quote them all day and night, but my quotes are general more popularized movies.

Well, that's me in a nutshell! Glad to have finally posted something!

Welcome!

I travel alot too - mostly for work. You've been through more of Europe than I have -- I'm jealous.

I'll be in India and Turkey in May, first time to Turkey, so am pretty excited about that.

SUPER JEALOUS! My username is actually an archeological dig site in modern day Turkey. I've always wanted to go visit there but I'm poor as ****.

You know we could start a movie quote thread.

My name is Ryan, and I support this idea

Çatalhöyük:
Tell us about the dig site in Anatolia you chose as screen name.
When I studied ancient near eastern history.. which was nearly an ancient age now....... this was relayed as about 6700 BCE as the earliest dig site that represented "civilization".

Obviously they have rewritten the history books in the 1970s and many more discoveries have been made since then, but 8800 years ago people were urbanizing, maintaining agriculture and animal husbandry, creating a division of labor, political system and monumental architecture.

Honestly, you probably know more about the subject than I do. I am a History Major and Math Minor hoping to teach high school / college history courses but when I go to grad school my focus is going to be something around the abouts of early civilization specifically in the ancient near east. Catalhoyuk was just one of the most interesting things I had learned about when I was taking classes and it just ended up being my handle for video games and forums ever since. I have a long way to go in my education but that is what interests me the most.
