Welcome! Thank you for embracing the suck for the rest of us!

Do you get to have all those guns you listed at the base? If not what are you running around with now? :)

Thank you kindly for your service and welcome to the board.

Very little, restricted by age, not interest. When I've gone to the range I've shot a PK380-mainly to show the girl it wasn't gonna bite, XDM 45, Colt 1911, Glock 17, Glock 23 and a Glock 37. A Glock 22 and a Kahr CM9 are on my purchase list. The Kahr for CC and the Glock for nightstand/winter CC

This just always grinds my guts. A young man can serve his country, overseas in a hostile environment, yet can't legally purchase a handgun........ Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.

How did you find this site just curious.

Thank you. I found this website when I googled "MN gun forums", no joke. Seems to be a fairly large (and supportive) community.

Camp Virginia is about a 45 minute drive from the Kuwait/Iraq border, more affectionately known as KX or K-Crossing. I forget how far away it is from AJ or Arafjan, if I spelled it correctly. My MOS is a 25U, a Signal & Support Systems Specialist, basically I'm the Commo guy for our company. Not that I actually do my job though, we run sustainment convoys and long hauls to and from Iraq for the draw down. Within the next couple weeks I'll be heading up to Camp Adder, Iraq to assist them with Commo while they tear the base down.

Back to your second question, all in a nutshell I maintain, replace, repair or smash (if its broke enough break it some more logic) BFTs, ASIPS radios (in the family of SINCGARS radios), Harris radios, sat phones, Irridium Radios and everything that hooks them all together and allows you to communicate with each other.

Image
The display in there is a BFT, its basically a computer that shows a map with everyone else that you can send messages to and from anywhere in theatre.
Image
Thats an ASIPs radio, we're trying to move away from them to the newer Harris radios.
Image
The mentioned Harris radios, makes operator use a lot easier, more talking power.

I couldn't find a picture of the Sat phones we use, you can pretty much imagine they're like a cordless phone at home, just with a big freaking antenna that talks to satellites.
Image
Heres the RO radio, basically its like a sat phone in which it talks to satellites but is push to talk instead of constant communication. My opinion on them is that they suck, its one button and a dial.

Embracing the suck is nearly our company motto.. and no, all of those are back home in the vault. Personal weapons are extremely frowned upon. Depends on what I'm doing, usually its a Colt M4 (standard front sight, flat top receiver with an Aimpoint ML3-junk, VFG/bipod and a Magpul BUIS rear sight or an M9 (another piece of junk)

Thanks, judging by your username you're either prior service or a reservist? If so thank you for your service..

Its not a bad place if you don't go around where all the 23yearoldandstilllivinginmomshousebutactcool kids hang out. Btw, any good ranges in the area? I've looked around around at the Freeborn County area and either I haven't been able to get a hold of the owners or they've closed up shop. If I want to go shoot I'll head out to a buddies in the Glendale area or up at BillsBS.

Yeah I know, weirdly though anyone 18 and up (excluding those with felonies and such) can possess a handgun, how does that work :?: Good news is I had around a 4 day turn around for my permit to purchase when I got it in last year.

Any idea where he's from? I could figure out roughly what battalion/company he's in.
