Howdy, just joined after a suggestion from a fellow on the 1911 forum. Name is Matt, Navy Vet, currently in the National Guard 2/136 ACO, 11-B. Planning on going into Law Enforcement and moving to Alexandria next fall to the tech college so I can learn how to eat protect and serve. Big into the 1911, I like Hi-Powers, CZs, love my Cx4 Storm Carbine, training turned me into a fan of the Stoner Platform. I like to run, read a lot, and I've trying to get used to the winters up here again. Gotta say that stints in Washington, time over in the Pacific, and a pleasant visit to Ft Sill where Drills Sergeants yelled at prior Navy and Air Force pukes have turned me off of the local weather a mite.

Grew up an Army Brat until dad retired and moved us to the family farm in Ottertail County, really came to enjoy the hunting and the ability to run amuck with a .22 rifle as a teen. Had to get used to y'all yankees and your prediliction for crawling all over the ice and cutting holes in it to chase fish, even though the bug never bit me I've come to forgive you for it.

I'm saving up so I can get into IDPA or ISPC, won't be for another year until I move again and get situated, really looking forward to that since I like competition of any kind. I'd also love to know if there are any decent ranges where a guy can shoot 300 or more yards in the Alexandria area.

Welcome aboard :welcome:

I grew up in Alex and lived there until about 10 years ago when I moved to Morris. Sorry to say all they have for an outdoor range is a pretty weak 100 yard range, suprising for the population. More bad news is the Alexandria Gun Club closed their indoor range about 3 years ago. I'm actually the secretary for the Morris Rifle Club and we have a nice 400 yard range. Individual memberships are $20 per year another option for you would be the Grant County Shooters Assn. they have a 600 yard range over by Elbow Lake.

For action type shooting competition the scene is pretty lame in the area. Though from Alex it's a fairly short jaunt down 94 to the SCAPSA range in St. Cloud, where they do a lot of USPSA and multi-gun shoots. We're trying to get some stuff going in Morris as well.

Good luck with the move and feel free to shoot me any questions.
