Changed status from lurking to contributing

Joined recently, OGC member, PD shooter, reload mostly rifle. Maybe I can make an occasional contribution. Navy Vet from 1960,s.

1960s, huh? I didn't realize the Orion had been around that long. It was still the primary land-based ASW platform when I served in Uncle Sam's Canoe Club in the late 80's.

P3 Orion was first deployed in 1962. Our squadron (VP-19) was an early receiver of the P3's. We had Lockheed engineers with us on many flights, ironing out the bugs. Much of our equipment was old vacuum tube technology. I received basic transistor theory in my electronics training. The P3 is now being replaced with the P8 Poseidon which is a modified boeing 737. Would be interesting to see the new one. Two of the P8 aircraft were used in the search for the lost Malaysian aircraft, flying out of Australia.
