Hi everyone. My name is Matt and I'm from New Prague.

This site was recommended to me by one of the guys in guns at Gander Mountain. Been snooping around reading posts and it seems like there are a lot of very knowledgable people here!

I have been around various types of guns my whole life (my father taught me to hunt when I was very little). Most of my experience has been with shotguns/rifles, but since serving in the military I have a new found appreciation for handguns. Qualified expert pistol shot with the M9 and it blossomed from there. I just recently got out of the Navy but while I was active I purchased two of my own (a S&W and a Glock, not an M9...).

I look forward to gaining a lot of insight from everyone and sharing my experiences!

Matt

Welcome, there is indeed a wealth of knowledge here together and some certified village idiots that drop by from time to time. Try to make it to one of the steel shoots and we'll ween you off that Glock

as with most companies, there's the Gander Mtn guy and Gander corp. Some people hereabouts have issues with GM Corp. Not much the guys behind the counter can generally do to affect corp level bad choices.

I was an HM. Actually a DT but they merged the two ratings a number of years back. Those of us that were DT's before the merger though still considered ourselves DT's (for the non-navy in the forum, HM is a corpsman and DT is a dental tech...).

Thanks for the tip! Already gotten a lot of good info! I wouldn't let the GM bashers in the forum get to you  I've always been a Cabela's guy myself but found I can't afford most of their stuff anymore.

In high school it was mostly hunting related, and mainly shotguns (duck and deer hunting) but lately I've been doing less and less of that. The last few years its been handguns. My first handgun purchase was a S&W Sigma .40 (I know, I know... but it was inexpensive and a good entry into the handgun world). Now the proud owner of a Glock 19 thanks to the military thing and I love it. Its simple and reliable enough for the wife to use if she were ever to need it. Also a bit of a history buff, so like probably everyone else I'd someday like to get my hands on a genuine 1911 military issue. We all have to have goals, right?
