Thanks all. I have no idea if she will be interested in shooting at all, but I hope so. This will be the only one we have, because my wife has been nasty sick since the beginning. She says that she will never go through with it again. So I am really hoping that she follows in her daddies foot steps and loves to shoot

So rather than just being chased by a zombie, you are now being chased by one in that's engulfed in flames? No thanks.

Never too early to buy a dedicated gun they would enjoy for a lifetime.

My Grandson started bb guns at 5-6 and we instilled good habits from the beginning. At 10, he now can shoot reasonably everything in my collection (though he dosn't enjoy my old military rifles)...he uses the bench on the heavier ones.

You may want to consider the small-enough-for-an-eight-year-old-guns vs a gun-to-last-a-lifetime debate. I would be inclined to buy her a lighter full sized scopeable .22. One that she could use as an adult as well as from a bench as a pre-teen. There is nothing like saying your dad bought you this gun as kid when you are out shooting as an adult.

My grandson likes a bolt action clip fed .22 because of all the stuff he has to do when shooting.

Of course, who says you have to buy just one?

By the way...Congrats!

Seen them at the range shooting a 22 rifle at age 4. And as far as liking to shoot or not, that's not an issue at that age. They'll pretty much like anything you do with them that doesn't hurt or scare them, and at age 4, dad is going to be helping aim the rifle and soak up the recoil.

Congrats!! I'd get it now...our daughter started a few years back (she'll be 11 shortly) and we started her on the infamous bb gun...she thought that was fun putting little holes in the paper...now she's graduated to her cz .22 (youth) and I actually like to shoot it. I also started her on a 20 guage shotgun during trap this last season. She started shooting that when she was just a shade less than 10. Started at targets, then we saw a bunny out the back door one day -- no more bunny!

So, buy it now. Have a blast with her...one way to get her interested is to expose her slowly and in a fun way...that little .22 should do the trick!!
There is no guarantee of the first without the second.

Congradulations! I currently have 2 girls (2 & 3) with another of surprise gender on the way. I haven't given enough thought on when to introduce them to shooting. I hadn't thought of 4 years as being the appropriate time for a .22, but then again I suppose it depends on the kid! As for me, I didn't shoot a gun until I was 29 (last year)!

You have a lot to look forward to. I also agree about picking one up now to save a bit of cash later.

Congrats on your baby girl!!! My daughter is six now. I bought her a Rossi .22 /.410 youth combo last fall (she was 5) and she shot it for the first time this spring. She did quite well and ended up shooting my 10-22 and a S&W M&P 15-22 the same day. Here are a few photos of that day and another from last weekend with an AK-47. She really enjoys going to the range with me and has shown interest in the 3-D archery as well.

ScatterGun4015 wrote:So Ladies, I have to ask you a question. My wife is pregnant with our first child and we just found out at the beginning of the week that it is going to be a girl. All these thoughts have popped into my mind about teaching my little girl how to shoot. My question for you fine women is; How old does she have to be before I buy her her first pink 10/22? I was planning on picking it up now and hanging onto it until she is old enough to shoot........but my wife says that I am a lunatic. So any thoughts would be help much

Thanks

David

Congrats, I have a 3 year old who is getting started on BB gun. She is very smart, and follows directions very well. She knows Eddie Eagle's rule to a T, and understands the 4 rules well, even if she cant recite them.

If things go well with BB gun, I would immagine by late 4 or 5 she will be getting a nice pink 10/22 or cricket. YYMV as you will soon find out, no 2 kids are the same. :catfight:

I think you need to find a download of sounds of the gun range and start playing them in utero for her so that she can start to consider it a "soothing" sound. After that she should crave these noises. I would think that you would set from there.
