The Purse for Concealed Carry

Ten years ago I acquired my concealed handgun license. With the written test and the paper punching range session behind me the easy part was over. Now, all I had to do was figure out how to carry concealed on my very female body.

I found that having a short curvy waist and long legs did not work well with a holster on the hip. Carry at the small of the back or inside an ankle rig was also out of the question.

So, I continued my search for stealth in the land of the concealed carry purse. In the last ten years I have had four purses. Each one taught me something new about carrying a gun along with the dozens of items we women must keep handy.

In the interest of full disclosure, I am a man and don't carry a purse.

I have heard more than one expert (including Tom Gresham) say they don't think a carry purse is a good idea, since it can be taken from you more easily than a gun from a concealed holster. Of course, If you really only want to use a purse, the gun you have with you is still 100% more effective than the one you left behind because you were told not to use a purse and you don't want to wear a holster.

Lots of men say don't. I know three womenwho use it exclusively and who have done so for a very long time. Coronado and Galco and a few others make very good ones.

Work and wardrobes choices and necessities are much more intrusive for women and purse carry allows many women who could not manage it otherwise to carry. There are pros and cons to both.

I would've thought they would make a CC bra. Seriously, for women with average-larger cup sizes, there's the perfect spot to conceal some of the smaller framed guns. Plus, imagine the moment of a assault about to take place, and the woman whips her shirt up to grab the gun, that would cause most attackers to freeze for at least a precious second or two, no?

My wife and I have been working on just that kind of thing. There are two problems though, comfort and being able to wash it regularly. Leather is right out...

I have allways thought that carry purses are not a real great idea. Kind of like ankle holsters. If I were a bad guy and I wanted to take a ladies purse... I would get the purse and all of the contents and there isn't a thing she could do to stop me.

Of course if it's the option that a lady has... it's better than nothing.

I am not a fan of purse carry because it is the focus of the robbery or a purse will be separated from the victim by the attacker because it contains a cell phone, car/home keys, and any weapons that the victim may be carrying.

But many ladies will only, or can only carry in a purse, so I am working with a holster craftsman to get one of these, hopefully in a couple models.


The support plate can be made in whatever size to fit the desired purse pocket. If a lady has a several purses, then a model can be made to best accommodate them all, more versatile and almost any purse can be used, not a specific carry purse which can be expensive.

I like that concept

Women I know who carry will have their hand on the gun almost as soon as they start to move. I would think it would surprise the pooh out of an attackers who's very act draws the gun that's going to stop him.

Re the other method. Consider attaching snaps to the undergarment so that the cloth part can be washed.

I personally think that this would be a great idea. Most of the time I dont wear clothes that would let me carry on my person. This seems like a good option for those days.

I like it but wonder about other detritus in the purse getting in contact with the gun. When I pocket carry, I do so with NOTHING else in that pocket. Would suck to get a dime or bobby pin or etc stuck in the cylinder on the revolver...

My wife has purses from galco and Coronado. Both have gun only compartments. Some have a very wide elastic band that covers all of the gun but the grip.

The panel will go in a purse pocket or divider by itself, just like when I pocket carry, the only thing in that pocket. The idea is to order one to fit multiple purses and then use hook & loop (Velcro) on the backside to stabilize it in the pockets of the different purse pocket. Again, I am not a fan of purse carry, but for a few it may be the only viable option and a holster panel like this might be more versatile.

Just got off the phone with the creator a few minutes ago and I will have one in hand shortly for my class display.
