Swedishbabe's first pheasant.

Postby Belgiboy on Wed Oct 27, 2010 9:04 am

Last weekend was perfect. Three days of Pheasant Phest in North Dakota with tons of roosters, beautiful weather, good company and an occasional adult beverage of course. My wife shot her first bird and has been walking with a spring in her step ever since. Normally she's extremely apprehensive about her appearance when being photographed, she had no issues whatsoever with her picture taken now despite the Elmer Fudd hat, the blaze orange and the camo.

On a sidenote: My beautiful Franchi Alcione has been designated by her to be her personal and only pheasant gun since that's what she used to bag her first rooster. I'm looking for a replacement
On a second sidenote: We stayed on the farm and there was no sign of Carl Spacklers rifle ;)

Very nice! Always good to see women getting involved in hunting! They are a huge growth area to help reductions in overall hunter numbers per capita. My wife has been hunting with me for 7 years now, and I still am extremely proud of her first rooster.

Congrats!

Congratulations on getting your first pheasant sweedishbabe. On a side note belgi, you being from my side of the world, I thought we referred to these as cocks not roosters. Hang on i get it ;) Not really an appropriate place to caption a photo of your wife with her first..ahem..rooster. Gotcha!!
As for the Franchi, you can never go wrong with two.

Sure does feel nice to get your hands around your first..... ah..... rooster.

Excellent job Swedishbabe! I'm sure Fiasco was very proud of his Mama. Looking forward to you guys coming down for some Ringneck chasing. 1911nurse has her hunting wardrobe acquired now, so she is hoping you'll show her the ropes in the finer points of blasting a pheasant!

Season opens Saturday for us down here. My vote for a replacement gun is a Beretta auto, but then again if you're an over/under type of guy, maybe a nice vintage Superposed? Come on, you know you want one.

Congratulations & very nice. I've heard of this phenomina where the wife decides she likes a certain gun I calls it hers. One of the gun writers had the same problem.

The word "cock" used to be auto-censored around here, I remember having to write about "roostering" the hammer on my 1911. Don't know what happened with that.

I won't buy another autoloader because I have a very good one but if I run into a Beretta O/U with a straight English stock that is semi-affordable...

Fiasco did great, he's getting to be a better bird dog at his ripe old age of 7 yrs. Here's him and me after walking a couple of neverending fields. Both of us had trouble getting up after this pic was taken. That's a nice row of cocks we have there, wouldn't you agree?

This is the take after walking half a mile of fencerow, lotsa cocks in there. Trust me, there were plenty of cocks that got away too. The young and stupid birds stay put and get flushed by the dog. Young and stupid = Deliscious. The older, smarter birds haul ass as soon as they hear a pickup door slamming shut.

Yes. Pheasant veal is much better than pheasant leather.

See a rooster with short tail feathers, blast it!
See a rooster that is balding, wearing suspenders, and yells at kids on skateboards for going too fast... let it go.
