How many are actually buying suppressors?

I will likely get a suppressor or two at some point down the road, but as mentioned, they're expensive, cumbersome, and a red-tape hassle. I'm in no rush. I have good ear protection.

I've bought two, rifle and subgun. I'd like a 22 suppressor but I haven't shot much 22 since the panic and my 22s are not easily threaded.

I am in the process of buying a house so fiances are tight at the moment. I am really interested in hearing the difference one makes. I have a 300WTF pistol that I have been using for deer hunting for 5 years or so. With supersonic loads, it had done everything I have asked of it. I am excited to try but scared of the price of admission at the moment.

How many are actually buying suppressors?

Forms are in the pipe for a SilencerCo for the machine gun. Just ordered one to start out, but I'll have at least 3 in the next year or so, one for the GAP-10, and another for the .45.

I want to save the hearing I've still got while I can. The loud boys are getting mufflers :)

Yep, 7.62. I will likely get the 5.56 end cap for it, but given the heat generated and amount of lead going through the pipe, I wanted to go a little larger internally to mitigate the risk of hitting a baffle.

Great minds and all that. But sadly I have no machine gun. :(

Is the process to buy a silencer the same in every state?

I'll get a few once NFA is repealed and I can buy suppressors at Wal Mart for $8.95 and trade them with friends like baseball cards.

Unless the state has their own process on top of the federal process, yes.

Minnesota has nothing added to the federal process.

It's kinda sad how many friends, told me "I can't wait to buy a suppressor", and now are opting out due to the paper work.

In my case, it's not the paperwork that is holding me back. I already did the NFA trust. For me, it comes down mainly to cost vs utility. There is absolutely no doubt that firing a .22 that sounds like an airgun would be cool, but I don't know if it is $500-$700 worth of cool. Add the extra cleaning steps and crap blown back into the action of a semi auto and the cool becomes a little more bothersome.

Centerfire doesn't sound like it's hearing safe even with a suppressor. Couple that with public ranges where not all shooters will have them, and ear protection is still a must for me.

It's also just dang tough to make a decision on what to buy. There seem to be no standardized tests out there for comparison. The idea of spending the money and waiting 6 months for what may turn out to be less than you expected is definitely a factor. I may change my mind once more dealers actually start selling them locally so we can see them in person.

Definitely not saying I won't ever buy one, but may wait until our state has a more established dealer network and I can learn more about them or see them in action.
