H&H Sports in Maple Lake.... just got in 6 M&P 15-22 and were selling them for $420.

That is a good price considering Cabela's had them on "sale" for $429.99.

The S&W looks infinitely better than the Colt -which has more in common with an airsoft gun than an AR15, pot metal lined with stamped aluminum parts and all, but I still think that a dedicated upper makes more sense if you already own an AR.

I think that that depends on what you are using the rifle to accomplish. Dick Metcalfe speaks to this in his Shooting Times article saying how inaccurate conversions tend to be and that includes the expensive ones like Tactical Solutions. My friend's conversion shoots 3" low at 50 yards, not good for my intended use in a rimfire rifle league. My other planned use is as my grandson's first rifle as he moves from Daisy Red Ryder and an airsoft to a real 22. The lighter weight of M&P 22LR is also a factor compared to my DPMS M4 with its optics and flashlight,etc. Granted I give up the same trigger, sight system, but the TS conversion is $700 versus just over $400 for the M&P. I save money and have two dedicated rifles, YMMV

We were using Fed Champion the 36 HP and these high velocity rounds work well in our Sig 22 conversion units. OK not always good to use 22LR HP in semi autos. around 1 in 8 failed to load. Rem Golden was worse, trying to get Fed Champion in 40gr lead nose to resolve the feeding issue.

Have folks that have this rifle found a round that feeds and fires reliably?

My personal experience is when all else fails, try CCI Mini-mags. They're more expensive but seem to make any of my semi-autos run. If the mini-mags don't work in a clean gun with good mags, then I know there is a gun or mag problem.

Also, I have had mixed results with lead bullets in my rifles where plated bullets don't gum up the works so fast.

All you need are a couple 10 rd magazine and a sling and you have a great Appleseed gun.

The front sight might be a little wide, but some judicious filing could fix that.

BTW - all they had at Bill's was CCI standard velocity lead bullets and it functioned fine.

Looked at both the SW MP 15-22 ($450) and Colt AR 22 ($602) at Hart Brother's in Albert Lea today. The Colt looked more like an AR except for the safety. The safety required a full 180 degree rotation from safe to fire. That and the front sight (gas block) is what turned me off on the Colt. The front sight / gas block will be in the way if any type of dot site is added. I liked the rest of it. I did like the forearm being of the "floating" design. It was noticiably heavier than the SW because the receiver is die cast versus the SW polymer receiver. (Trigger is metal. I thought last time I looked at a Colt, it looked plastic.)

The SW safety worked like a standard AR. 90 degree rotation safe to fire. I really liked that over the Colt 180 degree rotation of the safety. The SW lacks a forward assist and a ejection port cover like the Colt and real AR's. I thought the forearm of the SW looked much cheaper than the Colt's forearm. I also think the barrel looked much better on the Colt than the barrel on the SW.

If the safety on the Colt would work like a standard AR (90 degree) rotation, I think I would prefer it over the SW even at the additional cost.

I have a "rain check" for an SW MP15-22LR at Cabela's for the $429 "sale price" less an additional $75 Cabela's Visa discount coupon. They are to call when they come in. I have found Cabela's to be a good place to buy guns when I can use their Visa discounts, in addition to any Cabela's points I have on their Visa card. Otherwise, their guns are high. (But they do really have some nice guns in the Gun Library". A few have gone home with me, again usually combined with the Visa discounts.)

My thoughts exactly. As soon as the 10rds are available I am going to have to order a couple. I would have loved to been able to use it at Winona this past weekend.

The only problem I have heard of so far are caused by the loading of the mags incorrectly. You have to load the rounds in one at a time per the manual. If you compress the mag spring all the way and start dropping the rounds in too fast they go in uneven and cause feeding problems.

I still haven't shot mine yet. Sunday looks to be the day I will be able to get out and fire some rounds through it. Can't believe I'm this hyped about shooting a .22.

First thing my son did was retract the magazine spring all the way and start dumping rounds in and I could see right away that was going to be a problem.

I had better luck getting the first round to feed by retracting the bolt and letting it go than just hitting the bolt release on the side. But this was the demo gun and it was filthy.
