You can also get slings from the Appleseed store. They are nylon, but they are usually in stock and the price is decent.

You don't want the nylon slings.

They tend to slip and not hold as well as cotton or leather

That is my opinion too, but many seem to think they are superior:

Fred wrote:"You asked about secrets - not many people realize that the nylon sling is not only greatly superior to the standard GI web sling - stronger, lighter, waterproof - but scarce. These slings were made only a short time during the Vietnam War - production ceased with the arrival of the M16 and the 'silent' black sling. Many people don't know that with a little break-in they are far more supple than web, and will not chaff when wet like web will. As an extra bonus, the metal is coated to resist rust.

"Ours come direct from US military stocks and are available in two colors - green or OD.

"There's a real secret for you."

I looked at the slings. Most appeared to be unused. A few appeared to have a white powder on the metal - a result of the coating - which easily wiped off. The slings were supple, and I could believe their strength. Nylon is so tough that it is no wonder the Army adopted it to replace the cotton web sling in Vietnam.

Well, this one I can afford to buy one of each and use them side by side.

I have and use a cotton one. It's getting kind of beat up and frayed real bad from so many adjustments during the AS shoots, so I ended up buying the nylon one as a backup or eventual replacement.

The big advantage of nylon over the cotton is that it was in stock and affordable.

Just trying to become a rifleman is all. Adapt and overcome or however it goes.

If it's good enough for our military then it's sure damn good enough for me. Not sure who said that but I've seen it posted here a few times.

I have not shot an appleseed yet but would love to if I can get my .22 upper to quit jamming.

The nylon one will work but it will slip. Unless the buckle has been redesigned to give more bite it's gonna slip on you. When you are in a sitting or more noticably the prone position the sling should be fairly tight and you rely on it to keep you on target between shots. If that sling moves in the slightest you will not return back to your point of aim and you will be adjusting after every shot. It's just one less thing to worry about. The only year I didn't qualify expert on the range was the year I used a nylon sling. :(

One other thing that may help is getting used to the shooting positions. A few weeks before you shoot try some stretching excercises to get your body loose. Also instead of sitting on the couch and watching TV sit on the floor crosslegged and get your body used to it. If possible get into position with your rifle and actually practice the position. This will also give you one less thing to worry about.

The CZ452 actually comes with pretty nice tangent sights. At least, the one I have did. You can get a Brooks aperture for them for a few bucks in many different sizes.
