Dammit you are making this hard.

So is the E4 better than the regular STG?

What do you think about the MSAR 20" barrel vs 16"? And what about this 18.5 barrel that only 100 were made of?

Well, the MSAR is so short that a longer barrel might be useful without making the rifle seem too long. An 18.5" barrel might even be ideal. Personally, one of the reasons I bought mine was because the thing was just so short. If you're only going to have one rifle, though, you might want to go with a slightly longer barrel. I'd handle one first I suppose. You could always get another barrel, too. They couldn't be quicker or easier to install. Ten seconds, max. No tools.

I found this on another site that I thought addressed the E4 issue well. Mine isn't an E4, so I don't have direct experience with them. The ability to use AR mags seems like a pretty significant feature. I also like the lower rail. I might get one of those for mine.

USAaug.com wrote:starting from the muzzle, the E4 has 1/2x28RH threads for the flash hider. The stock has 5 hard points around the receiver for mounting rails. The new top rail is longer and lower, and the new optic sits higher (AUG height). The bolt release is re-designed and is flush with the stock. There is texturing along the lower sides of the stock, and a "finger groove" ala the M-16/A2 on the grip.

A couple features found their way into the late models that took AUG mags and are also present on the E4. Some of the internals are coated with a teflon-type coating, and the bolt, sleeve, fp and bushings are chrome plated. The receiver lock is squared-off.

MSAR has been talking a lot about making the rifle in several calibers, too, so a multi-caliber convertible rifle might be a possibility. They are advertising it as "new for 2011" on their website, and they have a picture of one in 9mm. This has been promised for a couple of years now though, so I don't know how likely it is. Online retailers are listing it and pricing it at around $1,000. They all say "backordered," unfortunately. Joe at Bill's has a standing request from me to let me know when an MSAR in 9mm comes out.

LOL, this is the exact reason I want to avoid even thinking of getting an AR. I just want to get a fun rifle that will, down the list past other things, physically let me shoot 3-gun. As long as they just allow me on the course i'm good. ;) I'm more worried that a short barrel will hurt me during coyote season. :D

Snow-

You can shoot those bullpups in USPSA 3-gun and the new IDPA 3-gun. One div for irons and another for optics. In MN the 3-gun matches only go out to 200 yards. No 1000 yard shots. ;)

I'd just get a nice AR.

So I was all interested in a MSAR, and then I went to bills and talked to Ryan the Gunsmith. (He's like my Oracle when it comes to gun questions).

He told me that he has replaced the bolt on the range MSAR like 5 times. He also said it's a nice gun and the customer service is great (though they are swamped right now for some reason), and to take his experience for what it's worth, since it's a range gun.

He also told me that it was really hard to do reloads on the bullpups (during a match). I told him i wasn't there to win the thing and he laughed and called BS on me. :D

He said the FS2000 is fun, but the forstock is a little beefy (hence the recommendation to put a tac rail on it like David), and the trigger is spongy because it's made to be a full auto staged trigger.

Long story short, he pretty much told me to pull my pants up and get an AR (but in a very objective way ;) ), because he knows I like to tinker, it would be better for coyote hunting and whatever else I like to do. Plus I got to shoot my brother's this weekend and it was awesome.

Damn, why can't they make an AR bullpup? :?

hello, my name is Johnny Downs. I live in new orleans and just aquired my first STG 556. Love it! but on my quest to accessorize it a bit, i realized there is not much out there, until I found this photo you posted on this site. found in on google just looking at some pics. I am interested in the front extension rail that seems to stretch over the barrel. what is that and where can i get one? it is perfect for what i am trying to do with my own. is that a picatinny piece originally designed for something else? I have to admit, i was skeptical when i first saw this weapon. but the more I handled it, the more I liked it, in fact.....i told my wife...."this thing is freakishly comfortable!!" I am almost 6'4" and 270lbs, and usually don't go so smaller weapons systems, but this.......this is incredible!! It is like an extension of my forearm and shoulder. It's more comfortable and accurate than my MP5. Please contact me if you have any other insight on this weapon. love to hear it.
