For many people it is. I doubt I could swing that right now. And carrying a rifle isn't something many people do on a regular basis.

A couple of years ago I ran into a guy at a sci-fi convention dressed as a WWII GI complete with a fake M1 the size and weight of a real one. He only lasted one day with it. Next year he had stripes and a 1911.

the weak will die, the rest of is will survive. maybe your guy at the sci-fi shindig had too much couch time. I enjoy sitting on the couch, but if one wants to truly be effective their body needs to be in as good of shape as their gear.

the only reason I chimed in on the "50 Mile" thing was to point out how rediculous this benchmark would be for the average joe. I run a couple full and half marathons every year during the summer and walk across fields in heavy clothes with snow shoes carrying a rifle (Rem 700 SPS Tactical) when hunting coyotes in the winter. I am very aware of the effects 13.1 and 26.2 miles let alone 50. A five mile hump with only the rifle would challege most of the internet arm chair warriors.

My names henry so Ive had my eye on one of these since I first saw the catalog. its my baby. I finally Got it for my confirmation 2 years ago , I have it in .22

Ive put 2500 rounds through it easily, never failed me.
the tubular magazine rods orange spring tip did break, and I called Henry and they overnited it to me.
(I do understand customer service probably wont be around when SHTF )

Experience will chalk it up kid. It's not all about how far you can run, a smart one doesn't need to run, but will rather just hide in plain sight.

I also spend my summers sleeping in the dirt in a tent as a counselour at cubscout camp, totally adding to my survival quotient because of the outdoors experience it adds...

Any Eagle Scout is far from the normal kid these days. Very far.

And yes, experience counts, but there is a reason that the guys running around with rifles in bad places are in good shape. Actually, there are a LOT of reasons.
