A lot of the complaints about DPMS have a lot to do with DPMS having poor quality control. They don't necessarily build bad products, but their volume is so high and they put out so much that I think they let a lot of stuff slip through the cracks. As a result, people see the issues. I have seen numerous issues in DPMS parts, and I no longer use any of their parts due to the poor quality of lots of parts and lots of things that have been out of spec. Many armorers that I network with also won't use their stuff anymore either. I have also yet to ever see a DPMS gas key properly staked from the factory. 6 or 7 years ago, it wasn't a huge issue, but now it seems to pop up more and more. I got a report recently from an agency that ordered new rifles from DPMS for their squad cars, and they had to send them all back due to massive mechanical failures across the board.

However, to their credit, DPMS uses good barrels and their guns are very accurate.

I could never discredit or dispute the experiences of people who have had good performance from their rifles, nor would I attempt to. However, for the new user, I believe there are much better options available ranging from Del-Ton to BCM to Daniel Defense and Noveske.
