They aren't as nice as a good Mauser, but they are serviceable rifles. My 91/30 is, so far as I can tell, original, and has a very bright a clean bore, but a dinged up stock, and handling wear on the metal. My best groups were recorded with Brown Bear FMJ; and it'll hold tennisball size groups at a hundred yards if you do your part (I'm sure better ammo and a sled would make for much better groups, as would an optic, but it is what it is). Rommy Surplus means groups about twice as large, but Russian surplus will shoot basically as good as Brown Bear. A small dab of Testors Gold on the front post makes it a lot nicer to try and aim with. You don't need Windex with Ammonia to get the corrosive primer salts out of the bore, Hoppes #9 Powder Solvent will dissolve them just fine (as will Ed's Red, if you use the version with Lanolin).

My other Mosin is a M38, and that's a great gun mostly because of the daylight visible muzzle flash.

I'd bet it looks strikingly similar to every other 91/30 out there.....

I have been planning on getting this one on film, but haven't had the time. Maybe later this evening after the hellspawn children go to bed.

They are all purdy......

What kind of finish you have on this one....I have had some that were deep brown cosmo to almost a bright red varnish.

Some pics for perusal. Not the best pics in the world, but they get the point across. Maybe in the next few days I will take some time with the lights and git 'er good.

Under good light, its more obvious that this is certainly not un-issued  , but it is still in pretty stellar condition.

I have been told to not believe the "non-corrosive" wording on the new production boxes of Russian ammo. It is supposedly all corrosive. I just couldn't resist buying a surplus 440 round can of Romanian ammo. The cost was about $0.20 per round. Even if the surplus ammo is more corrosive than the new stuff, it should be a moot point if you clean the gun within a few hours of shooting it. Also, speaking of "corrosive".... if you shoot with your bayonet attached, don't forget to clean it, because it will rust.

BTW, nice pictures. Looks really good.
