I would say very.. i like to take things apart and put them back together.. i like to know how things are working inside, so if something does break and i can go OOO thats what broke... not... F*CK! now what.

But i don't have 100 punches in 4 different forms, and i don't have any special wrenches or tools for building them..

Anyone want to set up a list and ill buy it.. then you can come over and help put it together hahaha

Only "special tool" I used was a vice grip to pusg in the bolt release roll pin. And the only thing that made it special was taping up the jaws.

Comparing apples to aaples and using stabdard parts, nothing fancy, you will save money, or allowing you to assemble a much higher quality rifle for less money

I was gonna suggest a bunch of ya buy them lowers, work on a parts list together (so no one misses nothin'), and invite farmer 'er someone to supervise ... and have a lower-buildin' party!

Only punch I needed was a roll-pin punch ... jest under 1/8 'er so (don't make me get up to measure it) ... IIRC, I got the Lyman 4pc roll-pin punch set ... hang on, I'll check ... BINGO ... http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?productnumber=191653 ... I got the magpul trigger-guard ... only need a punch fer the rear pin (come with it) ... the front one jest screws in with an hex-key (purdy small) ... also fer the bolt-catch ... that was it ... everything else basically screws together!

If yer gonna install a trigger, I find a 1/8 pin punch comes in handy ... fits purdy good so ya can line it all up, and then drive the pin in, against it. I'd git JP anti-walk pins straight off ... don't always need 'em ... but if ya do!

Oh ya, I like to git the hex grip screw, so ya'd need a hex-key to fit it ... otherwise, a giant standard screwdriver.

Make sure whatever stock ya git, ya know if it's "mil-spec" 'er "commercial" ... then get the buffer-tube to match ... same spring, I believe ... although, there's carbine 'n whatever ... make sure ya get what the stock calls fer. I jest got the regular carbine buffer and spring fer my Magpuls ... worked good!

Someone'll need to bring an AR wrench fer the castle nut.

Probly fergettin' somethin' ... Image

EDIT: oh ya, on my last one, the selector didn't ... uh ... I don't know ... you know ... where the detent's 'sposed to be able to slide ... it wasn't done right ... lucky I had my dremel, and that really long cone grinder ... was a bit big ... but the edge took it down jest right ... and then it finished off jest 'bout perfect!

... and duct tape ... don't fergit the duct tape!

I'd also make sure ya'll got a few extra of the smaller pins, plungers 'n springs 'n **** ... when that **** goes flyin', GOOD LUCK!

(note to self: pick up giant WHITE rug from Menards!)

Ya mean the jaws against one end of the pin and the other where the other end ends up? ... and jest squeeze?

Yup, that's how I did mine, for all of the roll pins (bolt catch, gas block, trigger guard, etc). And I've done 5 or 6 now.

I use a slightly under sized regular punch to push them the last little bit to flush, or just under flush.

It really is pretty easy. The only part I have found to be a PITA is getting the springs and detents in the takedown pins. Really it is just making sure you do things in order.

If you have this tutorial up on your computer as you go its pretty well impossible to eff it up. http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=4&t=226782 Other than that all you need is an Armorers wrench, I have one I could loan out as do others.

I thought the Cheaper than Dirt videos were purdy good ... I'd install the selector as I install the trigger, though ... might not go in, otherwise ...

That's purdy easy, too ... I jest used a small knife to hold in the spring/detent, slide the pivot pin against it, pull out the knife ... BINGO!

Takedown jest goes in with the buttstock end-plate ... even easier! Image
