Well I broke down and got my first ever 8 lb jug of powder... Hope it lasts longer then those 1 lb bottles. Oh and a free ammo can.



Also found a nice little set so when my stuff arrives I can pound pins in.



And something I've wanted for a long time but never really had a reason to get it.. A vise grip. Now I can hold those parts instead of them banging around on the table top.

I got one these ... slapped a couple chunks of 2x4 in it, fer jaws ... jest 'nuff pressure to keep **** from fallin' on the floor ... no need fer the vise-block, then!



... depending on how wide that vise of yers opens, and if it's got mounting holes fer jaws, maybe ya can squeeze a couple 1x's in there? ... couldn't hurt!

SORRY Yes.. i got a bench vise.. vise whatever...

The upper is complete already.. its just the lower.. so im gonna try and just take a 2x4 and carve out a mag design and stick the lower over that.. if it doesn't work or scratches the hell outa ****.. ill change it to something else

You shouldn't need any sort of vice or jig for a lower assembly, first time I did one using Youtube instructions I did the assembly on my computer desk using hand tools. I ended up using the open rubberized handle of a pair of wire cutters to support the "ear" for the trigger guard when pounding in the pin. Electrical tape, hammer, punches, utility knife and perhaps a pair of vice grips should be all you need for the assembly. I actually have the lower receiver block and didn't use it for the assembly, didn't seem necessary...

Yes it can be done without the vise but its nice at times having two hands to work on the gun.
Before buying a lower receiver vice block I used a block of wood shaped to fit in the magwell seemed to work pretty good just didnt look as fancy as the plastic block.

Yes thats what i plan to do at first.. just cut down a 2x4 to fit.

Update: My PMAG's and yellow springs came in yesterday. I guess I can post pics if you guys wants.

UPDATE!
So my upper came from Florida on Monday, the LPK, stock, and grip came yesterday. My stripped lower and Leupold AR 3-9x40 scope is in South Dakota and I'm planning to go there this coming Tuesday Wednesday to built it all. I thought my scope mount was ordered but they didn't have it so I went out an bought that, along with some scope overs. I also bought some stock ammo and more mags from grousemaster (thanks again!)

I've got some reloads built up for it. Got some 55 gr fmj on stop of Varget at 24, 24.5, 25, 25.5, 26, 26.5, and 27. 26.5 and 27 are compressed loads and Im prolly not going to shoot the 27gr load. (kind of afraid of that one). I'm gonna sight it in at 100 yards with the stock ammunition and get the scope as close as I can, then start with my reloads. After that I'll see what group was best and load .1-.5 below and .1-.5 above and see how that goes. Hopefully I can get a good number so I can start rolling out ammo.

Any other words of advice? The barrel has less then 20 rounds through it.. is there really a way or a need to "break in" the barrel?

You sure bought a lot of punches and equipment to make an AR... I've been putting mine together pretty much using my hands and whatever non-scratching object I can find to drive pins. You even have a fully assembled upper, too easy.

Barrel break in? I wouldn't bother... if you want to run a brush down it a few times at the range between shots it won't hurt.

Woe unto to the heretic that refutes the gun gods wisdom. A barrel must be prepared to accept the rounds it fires; as if it were some fragile medium that needs tempering to perform its intended function.

If he had a full length shilen or krieger barrel, etc... then maybe you're the type of person that would want to follow a break in procedure.

Not really.. Why don't you sight it in with ~1minute shots and then shoot a burst of 30 then see how the POI changes.
