AMD-65 and 922r parts??

If I add a sight that is made in the USA will that add to my compliance parts? Do pistol grips and furniture add to the compliance parts as well? I have an AMD 65 and I have a feeling that I need compliance parts (which is lame) since it came new and shiny with a tapco mag.... Would like to be able to use any mag I have laying around tho!

Awesome! That site is amazingly helpful! I have a feeling the only parts on my AMD that are US are the trigger group and the mag, I have a feg built AMD anyone know if there are any other parts that are US?

I looked into this a while back when I got mine, and I found that the fire control group (three parts) and magazine (three parts) were the compliance parts. Most people seem to get American-made grips to allow them to use foreign mags, as the grips are easy to find and cheap. I found some that I really liked, sanded them down and refinished them, and now it looks way better than with the foreign black plastic grips. Here's how it turned out:

that does look nice! i actually kinda like the black grips, i put a us palm grip on mine but it shoves your hand straight up and into the buttstock button....tolerable but not ideal, so i guess im looking for a more comfortable us made grip, the front grip does nothing for 922r correct?

That's my understanding, but of course all I know about it was gleaned from threads on message boards like these. The list of foreign parts in 922r includes "pistol grips" and "forearms and hand guards," but it looks like you can't argue that the vertical forward grip is considered one of those, even though it's identical to the rear grip and pretty much takes the place of the handguard. Go figure. Have fun with your project!

Forward pistol grip is not part of 922r compliance. The forearm guard refers to the top and bottom (counts as 1 together), but in the case of AMD-65, it is just the bottom piece.

More than likely, you will need to use US made mags to remain in compliance if you do not wish to replace too many original parts.

Hahaha maybe I'll replace parts slowly as I get the money for the parts, thanks I will have fun with this thing! Now I just wanna find a mini drako pistol. I got mine from Atlantic firearms, they were very nice and let me know the day they had them in stock, pretty good price too, also they are made by feg and not century....that speaks for it's self. This is my favorite AK yet and I've had a Romanian a yugo and a Egyptian none feel like this one.

I can't stand the stock, but other than that it's an outstanding AK. There are options for changing the stock to something more comfortable, so I might do that some day when I've got nothing else to do.

I ordered mine through Bill's in Robbinsdale. I can't remember the ad I asked them to order it from, but it was in Shotgun News.

Hahahah so what would you change the stock to? Only thing I would think about doing is using a ace side fold and a ace stock

Actually, I'd probably leave the stock as is but put a cheek piece on it. The wire side-folder is so thin that you have to raise up a bit just to see through the sights, so a cheek piece would likely take care of that. I've seen them online, and unfortunately they aren't very attractive. It's the kind of thing I'd put on there when I'm going to shoot it but take off right away when I'm done. Any other kind of stock and it just wouldn't look like an AMD 65 anymore, and that's kind of why I got it.

I might put a pad on the end of the stock too; not for recoil, but just to increase the amount of contact. It's pretty small the way it is.

It is the cheaper option if you don't want to buy the adapter for the stock.

You can get a US-made AMD gas piston, which in combination with a US-made pistol grip, would keep the rifle compliant with any foreign surplus magazines.

hmmm actually that sounds like the way to go! how hard are the pistons to change out?
