30-06 or 270? Ruger or CZ?

My favorite deer rifle is a Stainless Ruger M77 Synthetic (old style) in 30.06 with a 3-9x scope. Fantastic rifle and capable of excellent accuracy. I have not used a CZ rifle, so really cant comment on that.

Hate to say it, but if you're on a budget, unemployed, 3 kids and a wife. mosin nagant, iron sights

personally, I would be out with a sharp stick and a rock if I was unemployed with 3 kids and wife. Squirrel, raccoon, deer, whatever happened to cross my path.
But we're not picky in my household. If it looks like it might be food, we eat it.

It has come to this for a lot of people. Been there done that.

well, when i was describing my financial situation i left out a little detail. i'm a USMC Vet, and i have the new "Post 911/Chapter 33 GI Bill" in my favor. they are paying me a housing allowance each month, so the mortgage is paid. and we saved up a nice little chunk of change when she got pregnant. also, she had the baby two weeks ago and is "going back to work" this week, from home. that will end the daily commute and she's keeping her pay rate. the company my wife works for is very good to her (because she has made herself quite valuable to them). also, i'm looking for a part-time gig that will help keep that nest egg we saved close to the same size.

and, BTW, i got that M77 with the tang safety already. for $450 i couldn't pass it up. it looks nicer than my dad's '06 Rem, and it's still going to get dragged through the woods!

I would suggest a CZ550FS in 9.3x62 Mauser, that way you will have a gun that will put down anything
in North America, Federal even loads Dangerous Game ammo for that caliber, however reloading is necessary
to maximize the caliber.
