well... I stopped at gun stop today with the intent to look at .22's in the cheap, iron sighted, beater category
I left with a Mossy 500 combo. 24" slug / 28" VR barrel. Shhh don't tell.

Plus side: I can now hunt deer in any zone and birds as well as clays. Now I just need to practice the hitting the broad side of a barn thing :-)

Mind sharing how much you paid. Do they have any more?

Wow... I need to re-read the DNR booklet - I don't remember a "broad side of barn" season - Is this only on private property? and do you use the slug or shot barrel??? 8-)

You use shot through the slug barrel. It's a purely indoor sport too.

It was the only one I saw. They had a couple 500's or 870's in the $185 range. This combo was $199.95 on the price tag and Howard didn't want to move on that price for some reason ;-)

If that's not a good price, don't tell me, I'm pretty happy with it.

I love upland bird hunting so I have an number:

16 ga. Huglu SxS
20 ga. Beretta Onyx
12 ga. Beretta 390
Two 870 knock-offs:
Sportsman 12
Rem 870 Express

One is set up as a basic self-defense gun at the moment.

STOEGER IGA CONDOR O/U

Now you need a 18.5" barrel for HD duty and a line throwing barrel and muzzle loading barrel and a door breaching barrel and then.... I love Mossberg 500's! Congrats. :D

That sounds like a great price to me. I was expecting it to be closer to $300. I'm going to have to check out this Gunstop place sometime!
