Maybe there should be a little course you have to run through, to fully be able to utilize all the tactical accessories....Time and accuracy can be factored in to the other scores listed above?

No one said it has to be tacticool.

These are pretty much range toys right? Lets keep it simple. Budget, has to be own work, and then open from there. We can get into categories when the contestants have all been accounted for at the finish line (like a car show).

I think tacticool should weigh in on it

There should be some weight given to the opinions of those involved. By that I mean the ones that show up to the shoot off or what have you.

Damn I went to be at 8 last night and now we have 3 more entries. Lol. I look forward to winning the ” Karkov Cup” there what I came up with for the the name of the trophy.

so we decided on a, budget. But what about using items we already have on hand? Do they come out of the budget? Like for instance I have a cheap scope laying In my closet.

I don't think glass should be considered part of the rifle build.

Anyone could slap a Swaro on there and automatically out "dollar" any of us broke effers but it still won't make the gun shoot any better or be any more sporterized/bubbafied/bastardized/tacticool (ok, it would be tacticool 8-) ).

I happen to have a weaver scope that's worth $300 new sitting on the shelf I plan to use on this gun, so used it's worth roughly the build limit without the gun; and also makes me rather biased if I play along. It came on my cooper, so technically it was "free."

Ok so anything we purchase that we didn't already own for the bubba build off goes against your cap. Got it.damn I knew I should have bought that m203 a few months ago. I could have figured out a way to mount it to the bottom. It would have been game over, give me the trophy. Lol

I'm with fj on this... Some of us have nothing going into this. A break on the glass would be a world of help. Was crunching some number last night to be able to pull it off under $200 I'd have to find a $20 mosin.
The glass I'm looking at is about $80

i thnk we should settle if the optic is included in the $200 mod. after all, the mosin rear sight DOES go up to i think about 12 miles so what the heck do you need a scope for?

my vote is that it is, barskas and tapco's are all over for $40... what do you need a $200 scope on a $80rifle for?

my opinion, certanly open for discussion.

Mosin "Bubba" build off

Postby JoeH on Sun Dec 04, 2011 9:52 am

How is it that using the services of a friend who also happens to be a professional machinist is considered "doing it on your own"?

I was thinking that JoeH but I can't really argue. I am a machinist and have access to all the materials and machines. By snippy or Strad going to a buddies house who happens to have the machines, at least they are learning about the process. And they got to turn the wheels a bit.

Given that Karkov is made by a St. Paul company and the word bears no resemblance to anything Russian I am puzzled how that makes any sense.
