Mosin "Bubba" build off

Discussion of rifles, shotguns, and muzzleloaders

Come on guys, quit Stalin, and come up with the rules already.

:P

Make the rules you guys are comfortable with. If the rules that you come up with eliminate me based on how my rifle was built, thats ok. I will still be interested in seeing what you come up with.

Hell, if that ends up being case, I will even volunteer as judge. (I take bribes).

Who cares about need and usefulness? I've only taken 5 shots with a scope... Im looking for the lines. I may not be able to hit the broad side of a barn with the bullet from it but if the the pictures from shippy and strad are any indication I'll sure as hell burn the mother down. What it boils down to is I'm using this competition as a learning experience and will end up doing a lot to an enfield for actual use as a deer rifle which that scope would end up being used on.

my vote is that it is, barskas and tapco's are all over for $40... what do you need a $200 scope on a $80rifle for?

my opinion, certanly open for discussion.

I'm with shippy glass should be included.

I also say strad is still in. beg, borrow, steal whatever help you can get, as long as its not a professional smith. he should figure out an approximate value for his mystery metal though

I agree Strad is still in. I can go either way on the scope. Doesn't matter to me. Everything else gnu on my rifle will be made of scrap metal.

As far as the cost of the metal... His friend had it in the scrap bin. It was probably a bar end, so .30 for it. Be careful Strad. That will add up quick. Lol

Ooooooh. I just figured out what I am going to do. I have a great idea. Just have to crunch some numbers and see if I can door and stay under the budget. If I can... You should just give me the Karkov Kup now. I am not telling what it is until I determine if it fits under the price cap

I take it you've never met Misha before? He's even still got some of his accent.

For the contest, I can put any one of numerous craptastic scopes on the gun. I'd rather shoot it with the end package though.

As for Strad not building it himself - he was all ears, and very much "there" the whole time. Am I dumb enough to let a noob crash my lathe single pointing threads for the first time? HELL NO! Yes, I did some technical work on it without his participation, but I also made him do some filing and hand tapping (I only started the brake threads straight in the lathe), so he had plenty of skin in the game.

In reality, if you wanted to penalize Strad, you'd have to charge him for the barrel threading. He did most of the work on the brake.

Come on you guys, this thread/build off has one simple problem.

:picsneeded:

All of you entrants are now guilty of this. We need a thread of progress to add to the judging criteria. Stickied to the top somewhere, and the entrants must post occasional pics of their "progress" or serious lack thereof (and whatever reasoning they can come up with for serious lack of progress).

Kinda hard to post pics if you haven't started yet ;) there will be plenty of them between now and the contest itself.

It'd be hard to exclude strad from all this fun, he's kinda the one that set this whole mess into motion

There's no pics of mine because I prefer to shoot guns before I cut into them. I've had my mosin for 2.5 days now.
