Make a price list a part of the final judging. No spending limit, but make it known how much was spent to get the "rifle" (and I use that term loosely :P ) to its uh, current condition.
Seems like a fair way to go without excluding anybody, at least in my mind.

Too many "rules" take all the fun out of things like this. Why not just bubba the **** out of an otherwise perfectly good rifle, get together and shoot them, put them through their paces, and have a vote where you must cast one vote and it cant be for your own gun?

We could even open it up to the forum.

Why bog this down with a novel sized rule book?

Anokaman and myself are bumping heads on this today and tomorrow. we'll get some guidelines or "rules" together and knock down some of the mystery and anxiety.

that's what i was thinking. we could do a vote amongst competitors. can't vote for yourself (and let's be fair, gents, no voting for your best bud because he's your best bud)
then we could also open a thread and do a poll. on the poll, the competitors would have two pics of thier mosin-contraption, a breif description, and a cost list. those three things would be what the polling would go on, and have the entrants be unnamed to those that didn't make it. we'll give it two or three days of polling, and hope that the thread doesn't turn into an argument!

Ok I have to share this with the group. I went to Fleet Farm in Brooklyn Park this afternoon to look at Mosins and pick my victim. Everytime I have been there they have had at least 8 of them. They guy at the counter asked what I was looking for, I told him what I wanted. He informed me that they have 2 left. Then began to tell me that they had 10 of them but that they sold 8 in the last 2 days. He said that he has never sold that many in a week. I know that this bubba build off probably has no effect on it but it made me laugh at the possibility.

On a seperate note... I will be working with Shipyard to get a "rule list" made. Should have it completed shortly. The Karkov Kup Kommittee Whoops that is too many K's... Karkov Kup Committee is now in session.

Also I just sent an email off to Karkov Vodka to see if we can get a few free bottles of their finest donated as the GRAND PRIZE!!! And also asked for their "expressed written consent" to use the name the Karkov Kup.

Worst they can do is say no.

i have a feeling we're going to have to end up spelling Karkov with a few umlaut's to get around copyright laws

I will post the repsonse from Karkov if and when I get one. I figured I would see what would happen. Heck it is a minnesota company.

Good afternoon,

My name is Eric W***** and I am writing you to request your permission to use the Karkov name and logo for an event that I am organizing. We are a group of average Joe’s from Minnesota. Many of us are proud veterans and have decided to do a custom rifle build off. We will be building unique firearms out of the Russian Mosin Nagant which is a military surplus rifle. We had the idea to give the winner a big bottle of Karkov Vodka. We have nicknamed our competition the Karkov Kup. I am a longtime consumer of your product. And I was wondering if we could have permission to use the name Karkov. It started out as a fun competition between friends and has now grown to about 20 people. It looks like there is a lot of interest and that we might have more competitors than we expected. We have also requested that our entrants make a $10 donation which will be donated to a charity shortly after the competition has concluded.

Our group asks for your expressed written consent to use the name Karkov Kup as the name of our event. We would also welcome any additional contributions from your company that you may offer. It is not required, but if your company would be willing to donate a case of Vodka to be awarded to the winners of the event, it would be greatly appreciated. It would also be appreciated if we could get some promotional items for our event such as a banner saying “Welcome KARKOV KUP Competitors!”

Thank you for your consideration in advance.

Sincerely,
Eric W*****

I have seen the proposed rules. I like what I see. Think everyone will be pleasantly surprised.

I am patiently waiting for a reply from Karkov Vodka. I will post their response as soon as I hear anything.
