if you're talkign about the barrel you may not want to try and ask forgiveness from the ATF... not a good game plan.

make SURE you're over 16" fromteh bolt faceto the end of the barrel. short barrel rifles are nothin to mess aroudn with if you ain't got a tax stamp for them. you REALLY don't want to get into that hassle.

I was talking about the rail. I like where the barrel sits at about 19"

I drilled through the shim and attached the rail/shim to the gun with brass wood screws.
Duh, it ain't like you can weld wood. I tried once, so I know.

No, but you can countersink a nut from the inside of the stock, and use a machine screw and some loctite through the rail to keep it from jostling loose with the recoil, much like wood screws are bound to do....

You can also get them much tighter and more secure that way without stripping out the stock with a wood screw.

Sanding the stock where the shim makes contact and using some titebond wouldn't hurt either......

Just sayin'. ;)

I thought about that but then I looked up and saw a bin of wood screws :-) I might try that when I get home

Thanks for the tip Strad, countersinking worked well and I'm not as concerned about my gun falling apart
