well played!
in all honestly, it's a pretty cool look, i was at his place for a couple hours earlier. however, there's NO way i'd stain something with a Polyshade unless it was the baseboard in my house. if it's supposed to look really good, it wont. however, this Mosin is totally a turd. the idea is to make that turd into something else. i wouldn't spend hours and hours on a stock getting it the right finish.

well, maybe. i gotta get my donor before i can say any more

Yes this is a polished turd competition. And mine is definitely polished. Even found a can of old school Brasso. To polish up the brass on it. Soon I will be starting on the new barrel.

Well I got the last coat on and dried. It looks pretty nice for a polished turd. I wont be starting on the new barrel and everything until after the first of the year. So to make sure I don't lose any of the screws... I just reassemble the rifle. I got to say... It looks pretty sweet as it is now.

Veddy Nice, Veddy nice indeed.

Have you been able to get the original barrel off yet?

Not yet. Tried for a little bit on Saturday. But I gave up because I got busy at work. I will get it off one of these days.

That sounds like a plan! Fire and a breaker bar!

And a hammer. Give it that little extra persuasion.
Or at least relieve some stress.

That you'd have to ask Anokamnman.
If/when I need one I think I'd opt for those ones that drive in the pylons along the freeway. I'll either fix it or fubar it, either way I'd be happy and laughing.

Gunstocks are one thing, but please don't ruin a guitar body with that stuff. Unless it's a pile of excrement...... Then go ahead. Cheap Poly finishes are about the worst thing anyone can do to a guitar besides smashing it on stage or handing it to a modern Country singer.

Nonsense. This mahogany body with a 1/4" carved AAA flame maple top I've got sitting here will look great with that finish! Seriously though, I was thinking a beater/punk refinish - something that could be put on in the basement without using rattle cans or a sprayer and would reasonably cover up the wood filler/bondo.

It looks like the ebony stain completely obscures the woodgrain, unlike the normal ebony stains that usually let a little bit of it show through. If you were to sand the butt of the Mosin stock flat and add a piece of wood to make it longer, would the joint (assuming it was sanded smooth & even) disappear underneath that finish?

I have removed a few stubborn Mauser barrels. The best way I have found is to chuck the receiver in a lathe. Make a parting cut about 1/8" deep at the receiver/barrel junction. It has worked on every tough barrel I have ever done. After a couple times messing around with the hammer, torch, breaker bar combo, I part first then go to any/all of the above.

I have to laugh... Was just looking at your newest pics again... It's nice to see you stained it to match your purse
