I also own a Marlin 1894 .44Mag.

You won't go wrong getting that lever either.
Beautiful rifle.

We're in a strange spot for .357 lever actions right now... Supposedly Marlin/Remington has suspended production of the revolver caliber lever guns (among other models) while they work out production issues after the Marlin lineup move to NY so there's nothing new flowing into the channel right now. Rossi has 0 channel availability in their revolver caliber long guns per the sources I've checked, not sure if there's an issue with the distributor or what...

I do like that the Marlin I was hot after is described as "exellent" condition on paper, but when I had someone physically pick up the gun it was described as "filthy" and in need of a good cleaning and gunsmith check before it could be sold... figures.

Anyway, bad timing on my part it seems but I'll keep looking, I do enjoy hunting for deals/hard to find items for a good price almost as much as the four legged furry creatures and birds. :)

The plot thickens...

Talked to who I believe is the firearms/purchasing manager at the Blaine store today and had him track down the sell price for a Stainless steel + walnut 16" Rossi model 92 lever action. List from their distributor is $499, they would sell it for $399.

Problem is... all of the Rossi stuff is currently on backorder (14 ahead of my request) and he would not put another one in the queue until they saw some movement.

His suggestion was... contact Fleet Farm via their website and ask them to carry this model, or check back in February/March when Rossi shipments start landing and special order one then.

So, guess I'm off to the Fleetfarm.com site to use their feedback form to suggest this could be an item worth stocking:

That is a good price.

I just remembered that last month while visiting Capra's, I saw a Rossi Ranch Hand behind the counter. It might be worth a call to see about their stock of "92s.

In the last couple of days I've hit or called Lincoln Pawn, Capras, Trail's End, Fleet Farm (Blaine, Brooklyn Park), Dick's (Coon Rapids and Roseville) and Gander Mountain (Blaine) - only saw a single Rossi 92 at Fleet Farm, blued/44 magnum with the octagon barrel. I've found a couple of used options out of state but the price isn't in the ballpark if I can get a new Rossi 92 stainless for $399 at F.Farm. Guess I'll wait a couple of months and see what happens.

This was probably two years ago now, but Gouger Mountain in Hoodbury had a blued Rossi 20" .357mag and .44mag. They were tagged close to $600 and eventually put on the clearance rack for $499 if I remember correctly. Of course they already had tons of scratches and handling marks by then.

Might call Ahlmans they might have a Rossi that they try to pawn off on unsuspecting cowboy shooters.

FYI--I see that GunsAmerica have two Rossi '92s in .45 Colt, stainless in 20" barrel length. Price is $495.00.
I searched, and there were no .357s for sale though.

If you don't mind buying online, Budsgunshop.com has the 16 and 20" stainless Rossi R92's in both 357 and 44mag for $452 including shipping. I ordered a 16" 357 because it's hard to find them in my area.

Bud's just listed them in the last day and they usually sell out quickly.

Wise choice getting snipped. Did mine in 1981. Never regretted it once. Had 3 kids, didn't want 4. Good move using the simpathy card to gain another gun. Hopefully soon you'll be shooting blanks with one and .357's with the other.

Indeed, as luck would have it Bud's sudden availability is an indication they are hitting the channel again broadly, I've already got a local price better than Bud's in the works, hoping to get the paperwork done tomorrow to seal the deal and get one on the way.

Speaking of .357 lever carbines, here's an article that had a interesting write up on the Marilin 1894C. Unfortunately the workmanship left a bit to be desired: http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2011/0 ... 57-magnum/

I was at the Lakeville Fleet Farm today and they had a Rossi 92 in .44 mag. It had the octagon barrel, color case hardened receiver and was tagged at $429. I looked at it closely and it looked to be put together well upon initial inspection.

Boo, I got f-ing skunked by my "marvel" source AND missed my opening at Bud's (had one in the cart when they were in stock)... kicking my own ass right now. :) One more lead on a 20" stainless through another source, supposedly there are 3 spares on top of a huge backorder and one is verbally reserved for me at the moment... hoping availability will improve once the SHOT buying frenzy by distributors starts resulting in channel availability of the Rossi products.

I did get an email back from the Fleet Farm product manager who is going to put me in touch with their firearms buyer when he returns from SHOT... sounds like there might be some interest in this product locally so I may just point him at this thread. If you are interested in being able to buy the .357 version of the Rossi lever action in stainless it might be worth throwing a note here. :)

Davidsons Gun Genie shows several 20" stainless .357's. No 16 inchers.

They had 16" stainless .44's yesterday. Those are gone, too.
Yeah, but I shoot with THIS hand.
