Help pricing a used rifle

Postby sochr000 on Mon Apr 02, 2012 7:36 pm

Today a friend of mine approached me about a rifle for sale, turns out her grandmother has a rifle that belonged to her husband. And since I am one of the only lefties she knows, she wants to sell me the rifle. Below is the info on the rifle, what I need is the approximate value of it, as I don't want to rip her off, nor do I want to be taken.

Browning A-Bolt
.300 Win Mag
Made in Japan
Stainless, appears to be bead-blasted
has a Leupold 3x9 Vari-X II
black fiberglass stock
The barrel is either ported, or has a compensator, although I'm pretty sure it's just porting.
It was received/bought/won NEW in or around 2003
looks to be in great shape

Only negative is, the magazine has a little rust on it, and it appears to have not been cleaned since '03.

Do a search -
http://www.gunbroker.com/
http://www.gunsamerica.com/default.htm
http://www.gunsinternational.com/

Maybe help with figuring a price. When doing so, remember there will be shipping and FFL fees when bought online and shipped to you.

And I'm happy to oblige her... there's no such thing as too many lefty guns!

i personally like the rifle C. the bolts on those moters are quick. As far as the comp vs porting, if it is th boss system tha browning use then it does actually work quite well but it requires tweaking dependant on the round and it will make your gun very loud. I have shot a magna ported version of the same gun, recoil reduction, meh, negligible at best. Speaking of recoil, you shoot 300WSM it is a little more than that but as you know a decent shoulder weld more than makes up for that. The gun sounds like the hunter stainless, a nice gun, the scope aint a bad one either, If she sells it for say $500 hop on it like stink on crap, if she want $700 it is still an excellent consideration, if she want more thats up to you. If you want 300WM brass and ammo i have a bunch you are welcome to next time i see you.
My only minus for this rifle, the food is spendy, but then again, its not like you are going to be shooting a ton with it, and yes before you ask, i think its a nicer setup (personal opinion) than your savage.

checkout http://www.gunvaluesboard.com/ for more accurate pricing info. If you have pics to go along with your post that would be most helpful. I try not to rely on auction sites because it's not really an accurate gauge of true value. Condition, year of manufacture, etc., will determine value. I bought my Browing A-Bolt via gunbroker.com last year for around $400 used/new. It had been a safe queen for 2 decades, so I think I got a pretty good deal. Since yours has a Leupold scope I'd say yours might go for a little more, but the rusty magazine might also take away some points imo

Looks like her grandmother wants either $650 for everything, or $600 without glass. Either way I'm happy.

Also, TPFKAM, my Savage is a 7mm WSM... But I will take you up on the brass thing once I finalize the deal! :D
