I knew a guy who switched stocks, had an issue with accuracy like you did, and several weeks and dollars later found out that it was a scope mount issue......

Yea, I own and use a FAT wrench. I'm gonna sneak out to the range this afternoon and see how it shoots, winds are only 5-6 mph right now which will be nice. I'm going to leave it exactly how the gunsmith set it up unless I have issues. I won't be satisfied if it just goes back to where it was, because then I went to an HS Precision for nothing. I promptly sold the plastic SPS stock it came in, so putting it back in wasn't an option, and I didn't like that plastic stock anyway. Loved the accuracy though :D

Took it out to the range today, and I'm about where I started, maybe 1/4 MOA improvement...maybe. I wasted a bunch of time and money chasing accuracy when I had it all along, the HS stock "feels" and looks cooler though

Yuppiejr had it right, should have left it alone. I won't know what I really have until I take the human error out of the equation though, I don't pretend to be sniper...okay sometimes I talk like I am ;)

1/4 MOA improvment is pretty big in my book, at the very least the HS stock is going to hold the action in a much more static state, you shouldn't find the rig wondering much at all.

Also I should note that glass bedding is really pretty old school these days, Devcon is the way to go

Right on. The wind was in my favor yesterday (not much of it), I'll see if my improvement holds up over the long haul. I mentioned glass bedding because that is the bedding service that my local smith offers.

Glad it worked out, congrats on getting a respectable chunk of added accuracy after all the hard work. :)

That was Grousemasters 3 shot 110 yard group he put down, then asked me to give his rifle a try to see if it was him and I came up with this

The part he left out was that I then put down my own 1/2" group after he did it (yea my first shot 3 shots were rushed and "unsteadied" for that gross 2" group), then went on to out shoot him at 225 yds....but those are just minor details ;)

No doubt the rifles accuracy has improved over the plastic factory stock....my next move was going to be to reapply pressure pads (if the gunsmith hand fitting the stock didn't work, which it did). We didn't have a caliper but both these groups are right at or just under 1/2" now that I have a tape measure to check them out. In the interest of fairness, me "out shooting" him at 225yds was with me off sand bags and him from a bi-pod. However, he has a real bull barrel, not some goofy ass triangular thingy. :D

I didn't use any, just had a gunsmith file down a couple "troubled areas" (as he described) as far as the aluminum block/action fit was concerned. He didn't think it needed to be bedded, and I'm glad he didn't let me pay for him to do it.
