I go have some expectations. I shall wait until I can afford a middle quality AR. I don't want crap. I will do more research with the many above suggestions and sites. Thank you. :)

Bushmaster, much like DPMS is to be avoided. Ever since the Cerberus/Freedom Group takeover in 2007, they have had terrible quality control.

A good lesser expensive AR is the S&W M&P15. BCM is by far the best company on the market right now, due to the wide array of configurations available and top quality construction. Other good companies include Daniel Defense, Colt, Armalite, Noveske, Rainier Arms, LaRue, LMT, KAC, LWRC, HK, and some others.

I pretty much agree with this assessment. I'm not sure I'd label BCM as "the best", but it's definitely among that short list of top contenders and tends to be cost-efficient taking into account the quality of their products. I routinely use their barrels and BCG's in rifles that I build and have never had cause to re-think that plan. I also agree that the M&P 15 Sport is acceptable quality and likely to be the best rifle in the $800 price range. IMHO, that rifle sort of defines the category "middle quality", although if reliability and consistent quality of parts and manufacture was important to me, I would still go the extra $200 and get a Colt 6920 http://www.gandrtactical.com/cgi-bin/co ... n&key=6920 every time (actually my preference would be a 6920MP for $30 more from G&R Tactical http://www.gandrtactical.com/cgi-bin/co ... key=6920MP)

In this case, my definition of "the best" means high customization and high value for your dollar. You can get it exactly how you want it. In terms of actual overall quality, they're at the top, but so are several others that I mentioned, like Noveske, KAC, et al. All great options, and really depends on what options you desire.

Stag arms, are a really good "Bang for your Buck" AR.

BCM is also top notch.

PSA also makes some decent stuff for the money.

I agree. For the price point, I think they are just about the best out there.
