I never understood why anyone pays this lip service?! ... I've never forgotten to bring ammo along ... if I did, I'd simply go home, in shame! ... 'bout as much chance as forgetting my rifle, or license!

... I've also never "ran out"! ;)

It's like saying ya should always buy a Chevy, because no matter where ya break down, they'll have your parts! :|

I can appreciate gettin' a good deal! ... but judging by the folks I've seen show up at OGC October/November, and shoot 3 rounds, and leave! ... I wouldn't sweat $15 vs. $25 over the course of 4 - 5yr! Image Otherwise, I'd say the 7.62x39 recommendation is definitely the way to go! ... buddy took his first deer with one (an AK, besides) ... deer didn't complain!

I have never understood the rationale of making a statement that is as forward looking as "I have never forgotten my ammo" of even rifle... Well, I have seen both. I appreciate your optimism however much I disagree with it.

I try to encourage a person to buy something that they will want to shoot a lot - train with and is easy to own - if there is something wrong with that logic, just let me know. I just would like people to think about more than one use for something.... I don't like single taskers....

Like I said, 7.62x39! Image

Just cant argue with that choice... The little CZ that comes in that caliber is AWESOME and I love the fact that it has a DBM. Heck of a choice... That is something that I need to own someday.

That rifle and couple of additional mags would be just ideal with a little 3-9 on it. This is a rifle that I would take to a gun school and take a class with and keep up with the AR's

The CZ 527 Carbine is well regarded and cheap to shoot, though so is the Ruger 77/44 magnum bolt action. Both run detachable magazines and have iron sights out of the box, both can be effective on deer size game to 200 yards.. both are light, handy rifles... the Ruger is stainless + synthetic, the CZ classic blued steel and walnut.

44 Magnum is a straight wall pistol case and fairly easy to reload.... 7.62x39 is plentiful in cheap surplus for lots of practice.

Either would be a good choice for deer hunting at the ranges provided

FWIW, I recently saw that Davidson's had been getting in a lotta them Rossi '92 carbines in .45, .44, and .357 ... jest sayin'! 8-)

I wouldn't have a problem with a .44 ... but it's gonna shed energy a LOT faster than 7.62! ... 'bout 2x!

44 is going to dump energy fast for sure - but under 50yds it is going to be devastating.

I have ran out and getting more ammo wasn't really an option. One reason I'm retiring my shotgun but that's a different story. Granted that's different from never forgetting it in the first place, but still.

Like was said, I would like it to be more then just a deer gun. I would love to be able to shoot it because "it's Tuesday and I want to blow through a few hundred cause I'm bored."

I picked up a TC G2 Contender in 300 AAC Blackout that I have fallen in love with. Light, accurate (6" plates at 200 yrds from a good rest) and shoots a caliber that is equal to the 7.62x39 or the 30-30. Plus with the threaded barrel I am ready for when Minnesota passes the new law to allow suppressors for hunting :D

Now I am looking for an AR Pistol in the same caliber. This caliber can do the supersonic or subsonic ammo and is easy to reload if you wish. The ammo has become extremely popular and inexpensive, and it can be run in the AR-15 platform. An added bonus is if you use the handgun it is legal in the shotgun zone as well.

Your world frightens and confuses me! :?

... interesting idea, though! ... I'll hafta give this more thought! :ugeek:
