Here is what I did, possibly a little more expensive in the long run, but ......

Get a stripped lower, the lower is fairly easy to assemble just make sure to watch a few videos. Plus withj the right tricks you don't need special tools.

Get a basic complete upper that will meet your needs for a giving lenght of time (that time being when you can afford the additional parts you want).

Take the upper appart and put the new parts on, then get some additional parts and build another with the knowledge gain from taking the first appart.

I say buy a complete upper and lower, then pin them together. Check out my thread here, viewtopic.php?f=54&t=33592

You are going to find people that will say to buy the most expensive thing... There are cheaper alternatives out there and maybe an expensive rifle isn't necessary for your needs. I'm not saying that my way is the best nor am I saying what I bought is the best. I know what I have and it fits my needs. Do I expect them to be a tack driver...no. Do I expect them to fire each time I pull the trigger and hit the target...yes.

Best advice, ask yourself what you want out of the rifle and how much you can spend.

Buy a complete lower, build the rest. The lower has a bunch of springs and pins that, although not impossible to assemble, are a pain. There's tons of info on the pros and cons of different parts to put on your rifle. It all depends on your ultimate goal for the rifle in the end.
