Saiga .223 AK Conversion Advice

Postby dupank on Wed Nov 14, 2012 10:41 am

I recently picked up a Saiga .223 Sporting rifle. I want to do the AK conversion and swap out/add some parts.

Found that picture online and it is what I intend to do to my rifle plus a bipod. What do you guys recommend for the parts that will be good quality without breaking the bank?

    1. Folding stock
    2. Pistol grip
    3. Fire control group
    4. Magazines
    5. Rail forearm
    6. Vertical grip
    7. Bipod
    8. Any other parts I need (I'm new to this)

I want to be able to attach a scope but still have the iron sights available for use. Are there any manufacturers I should avoid for these parts and why?

Your shared wisdom is appreciated!

Look at an enhanced safety and TWS Dog Leg Scope rail

Ultimak with an micro dot or side scope rail are about the only choices. If you are talking about a magnified scope, I would just use a QD mount.

For the optics. You'll want to use a russian PK-AS which will allow you to use both without removing anything. Other wise a PK-O1, PK-A, Kobra, Etc can be quickly released to use Irons.

Holding a straight edge on that picture, it almost looks like he's getting a lower 1/3 co-witness with his irons. Pretty cool!
