First outing with a shotgun

Postby billsnogo on Sun Dec 30, 2012 9:13 pm

I have had my shotgun for about a year or so, but never shot it. My dad gave me his Browning light twelve 5a, and we kept saying we were going to get together to shoot trap, but didn't happen until this Saturday. He had a couple free rounds at the South Saint Paul Rod and Gun club.

It was cold, and really was not prepared for it as my hands were frozen, and really not get cofortable (as much as you can with frozen hands) until the last few pulls, but WOW was it fun! I really need to find a way to make this cheap, because I really want to do this over and over! I like punching paper, but moving targets are so much more fun. I really can not tell if I hit them unless I get it dead on, thankfully they keep track for me. My dad took the win with 14, and my uncle and I tied for second with 12. I guess that comes out to only hitting half of the pigeons, but still think that is decent for a first time.

Question though. I know it is illegal to transport a gun over state lines to sell, but can I bring mine to Iowa so I can go shoot with my in-laws? They get to shoot in a state park (I think that is it. Some kind of public land) and it sounds like fun. Do we have anything like that available here?

You can bring your shotgun to go shooting as long as it is not a registered weapon under NFA. It doesn't sound like your shotgun falls into that category anyway.

You should be just fine! Check out Metro or look at joining Oakdale. SSP is very over priced and they now require you to use there ammo. I quit going there for just this reason.
