EtronX

Postby Countryfried Frank on Sun Jan 20, 2013 3:22 am

I remember reading about Remington's Etronx a while ago and the concept intrigued me. Why didn't this take off? Is it just expensive or did it well and truely suck? Another question that may be more appropriate for ammo/reloading is did it reload the same as conventional centerfire or did the primers/pocket/flashole require special handling?

I think it's a lack of industry support due to needing a different primer.

I'm not positive, but I think an electronic fire control group might violate MN law as well.

EtronX was a solution to a problem which didn't exist, at least that's what everyone in the marketplace thought.

Heh, I did not know about the EtronX system.

This is interesting because, nowadays, home-building some kind of an electronic ignition system could be easier than, say, home-making primers.

Just rig up a piezo sparker.

I wonder if that would even light powder? Anyone tried it?

EtronX does use a primer to light the powder. The primer is set off by the electricity.I think they did this to be able to use standard cases.

A purely electrically fired gun is the CVA Electra muzzleloader.

Well, without the primer in the pocket, the powder would leak out anyway - so how to seal the hole and still allow spark ignition of each round? :hmm: Got it. C4! :goofydance:
