Tech sights and GI sling + sling swivels + a weekend at Appleseed are all the accessories you need. :)

The new models come with auto bolt release and the extended mag release but I hate the poly trigger groups... if you are ambitious sell the entire stock trigger group and pick up a Hornet or Timney drop-in model. I think the other stock/barrel upgrades are overrated but different folks/different strokes...

What's the problem with the poly trigger groups? I've been told by at least one gunsmith that specializes in 10-22 triggers that the poly groups are dimensionally more accurate and more consistent. I put a lot of rounds through my 10-22s and certainly have never seen a trigger problem. What problems have you had?

There are only a few items needed to make these run well and improve their human interface.
1. A good Extractor http://www.coolguyguns.com/Bolt-Extractor_p_14.html
2. A good buffer http://www.coolguyguns.com/Bolt-Buffer_p_12.html
3. A good cocking assembly http://www.coolguyguns.com/Cocking-Assembly_p_34.html
4. A good automatic bolt release http://www.coolguyguns.com/Auto-Bolt-Release_p_36.html

if you want a good trigger, one of the best kept secrets is KIDDS Ruger guard. The 2 1/4 lb option is real good. http://www.coolguyguns.com/Complete-Ruger-Polymer-Guard_p_121.html includes the bolt release and mag release.

If you want easier mag releases, a good release is http://www.midwayusa.com/product/666996/volquartsen-extended-magazine-release-ruger-10-22-10-22-magnum-black

The Poly trigger guards are better than the old aluminum ones.

I like the poly ones also, especially having broken an aluminum one. I did a trigger job myself on stock parts as a learning project and it came out great so its not hard but at the same time easy to mess up. I second Hmac, anything Kidd is top quality in the 10/22 world. On my list of guns to buy is a complete Kidd barreled action, they are sweet rifles. I've also cut the radius on my own bolts if you find you're having cycling issues. That was supper easy to do. Don't be afraid, they are great rifles, everyone should have one. I wanted to buy a few for future projects, kids, etc but finding one now at a reasonable price is a challenge.

Put a couple thousand rounds through it, and then you'll know what you wanna do.

I discovered that I want to just build a custom 10/22 I pick out all the parts for and then put together myself.

I'd leave the factory 10/22 alone and keep it stock. Maybe a buffer or extended mag release at most. I just hate having a bunch of stock parts left over I have to keep around because I don't want to get rid of them if I ever need them for some reason.

New ones don't have an auto bolt release, at least mine doesn't. I'm also fine with the poly trigger setup.

Ah, but the 10-22, even the models with their "target" trigger desperately wants a tigger upgrade and really benefits from it. For $105 (Kidd), it's probably the best investment you can make in upgrading the performance of a 10-22.

I note that Kidd sells a stripped Ruger polymer trigger guard (includes safety) for $35 for those thst want to upgrade from their aluminum version.

prob not the right place to post this question and im sure its been answered a million times but, im also working on a 22 project, im pretty sure the barrel needs to be 16in to be legal, but what is the shortest overall length i can go? also if i permanently attach a muzzle device i can go to an over all length of 16 to the end of the device?

16 inch barrel length, 26 inch overall length. If you permanently attach a muzzle device, that contributes to the barrel length and OAL.

If you want the BX-25 mags, they are available from Ruger. I did the back order and had it in about 6 weeks. It is worth the wait not to pay broke gunner (Gunbroker) prices.

I picked up a 10/22 international with the stainless barrel and Mannlicher stock. It jammed once or twice a mag with blazers, and even a couple hiccups with the remington golden pack. Gonna try thunderbolts next...

I've had good luck with the drop-in replacement trigger assemblies from Hornet:

http://www.hornetproducts.com/

.. the basic Ruger 10/22 trigger assembly is selling for close to $80 on eBay so if you want a no-fuss option dropping in the $90 plinker or $109 spitfire models from Hornet are pretty cheap upgrades.

Once I can get mine to run at all, I may try the trigger group
