I was looking around doing some research and it looks like the package model that I ordered does not come with an accustock. I have not yet received the gun yet, I am wondering if I should cancel the order and find a model with an accustock, or if I should save up and get a nicer after market stock. Any opinions from you guys? Any issues with an accustock, or is it not all that great anyway? Also, WHY WHY WHY would they add a scope and take off the accustock?? This rifle is becoming very frustrating and I don't even have it yet.

Thanks

The accustock simply provides for those who don't want to bed and/or accurize their stock themselves. The process is not rocket science and is well documented on the web and in literature. Not getting one no loss. That having been said, I'm no fan of "tuppeware" stocks that lack rigidity and some economy models are just that. Laminate stocks are hard to beat, both in aesthetics and rigidity. No, they're not handsome burlwood or tiger striped by mother nature, but they can be attractive as well as functional in their own way. I have both conventional wood and laminate stocks. Both have the feel of wood. they just get their by different paths. I'm not saying that there are no composite stocks out there worth having. Far from it. Those are not what you get in an economy rifle though. The accustock utilizes metal inserts to mitigate the lack of rigidity and the ease of reproducing the same result from one product to the next with a minimum of investment. I add in closing what I should have stated in opening, that this just my humble opinion.

Savage does have a way with configuration oddities - my older Model 10 (pre accutrigger / flat back receiver) has a polymer stock with a grippier texture (almost like Hogue) and bedding pillars a lot like what Remington includes with the SPS Tactical 700's.

For the money a Boyd's laminate stock is hard to beat (just over $100 shipped from South Dakota) - as long as you pick the right action configuration (short/long, staggered <old> or centerfeed <new>, right magazine type, etc..) they are nicely fit and finished, much more rigid than polymer and ready for bedding to match up with your rifle's action.
