Mounting scope bases to Savage model 11 .300 WSM

Postby hard h2o on Thu Apr 04, 2013 11:29 am

Mounted the front and rear bases to a new Savage Model 11 in .300 WSM.

I had to shorten the foremost screw a bit. The other three tapped holes are through holes. The fourth is over the barrel extension threaded into the reciever.

Is this normal? Almost looked like a tap had broken off in the hole.

Do you mean where the barrel threads into the receiver? I just bedded a 1 piece base to a savage model 10 and noticed that you can see the barrel threads through the front most screw hole. Just something else to watch out for. My screws didn't seem to hit or anything though.

Exactly. At first glance I thought it was a broken tap. Then I realized it was the threads on the barrel.

Wonder if the receiver wall is thicker on a model 10 versus a model 11. Maybe the screws are longer on the 46M Weaver base I was installing versus what you had.

They must tap the base screw holes before threading in the barrel.

Honestly I think that the receivers are the same, but I am not certain. I could see the 1 piece base being little thinker than a 2 piece, especially after bedding. Quick question, is your model 11 have the accustock?

No accustock. It has the round receiver, short action, and accutrigger.

It seemed kind of confusing looking at the Weaver catalog. I was told that it is the same as a 111. The guy at Gander Mountain tried to sell me a 61 and a 46. The 61 is flat bottom. I told him it wasn't right and walked out.

In looking over the catalog I concluded that two 46 bases would fit.
