How does the CZ 455 compare t the 452? Is one better then the other?

What would you buy for a .22 Bolt action

Postby Erud on Sat Apr 20, 2013 7:42 am

I do not have any experience with the 455. I know that it replaced the 452 in CZ's line-up, but I don't know the particulars of what they changed. My understanding is that the changes were fairly minor, and I know that there are folks that say that the changes were made for cost-cutting reasons. Maybe someone else here has more info on the specifics.

Regards,
Erik

Good question.

The 455 seems to be the replacement, at least in USA for the 452. There are still 452s to be found NIB, depending on the model.
The only thing I know about the 455 is what I've read in the CZ/ Brno forum on RimFireCentral.

I don't doubt there are excellent rifles, and like the 452s, and many of the Savages, will outshoot most owners (including this one) for a long time.

Check in at the Rimfire Central board. The CZ forum is probably the most active, and there is a long history of interesting, and useful information.
452s show up on the RFC marketplace from time to time.

Kimber 82G
A single shot .22 LR bolt-action rifle with a heavy barrel. The G stands for Government. These used to be training rifles for the U.S military back in the 70’s or 80’s and were then sold as surplus to the CMP (Civilian Marksmanship Program). very good .22 rifles.

One notable difference between to two models is the 455 has a modular design.
Makes it easy to change caliber with an allen key and a Torx bit.

If you want a rifle with a simple to adjust trigger The CZ 453 is one of their other rifles.

Anschutz Model 64, the CZ and Savage are great guns but you really need to shoot and an Anschutz to appreciate it.

Was it new, or used? :?:
Sometimes the new ones are packed in a grease like Cosmoline.
CZ is proud of the fact that dry firing cannot hurt their rifles, go ahead and do it all day. After a couple thousand rounds, that bolt will be butter smooth.

If you're going to scope it, keep in mind it has an 11mm dovetail, not 3/8inch.
I use BKL rings on my American, because they're super simple and cost effective (20 bucks? no brainer)

I hate to link to RFC again, but there is an excellent reference of what works for the different users over there.

I'm planning to add a Williams peep sight to either my Ultra-Lux or Full Stock 452 in the future. The CZ accessories store is down, or there would be a link here.

Do you know where to find a sub $500 Anschutz 64?
I'd be happy to see that.

And if not and you were just ignoring the budget, then you may as well just skip right over the 64 and get the real thing - the 54!

If I'm ignoring the budget? Nope, I'd get Something like an 1827F with that straight pull action.
Sure, people would laugh at me for years for being overgunned and underskilled. ;)
But I've been laughed at before.
