As far as I know they've always have made them from M1895's.
I will never apologize for being an American.

I would buy used. In fact, I am interested in almost the same exact setup as you and want to find a used one to do everything to. 30-30 is a great deer round. Not much for anything bigger, but have no doubt it kills deer well. Back to my main point, I would find a used one. The used ones are pretty well known to be solid, and they don't have that dumb safety on the side of them that gets in the way. The new ones do seem to have the issues worked out of them, but you know the old ones will work like nothing else.

I picked up a 336W a couple months ago. I've put 100 rounds through it without a problem. Fit and finish is good. I really like it.

Where did you pick yours up and if you don't mind what did you end up paying?

I got it at Walmart of all places. Price was $387+tax. Fleet Farm has them for $419.

I won't hate, that's a great price! I think the "W" had originally indicated the Walmart special low cost version, that may be something to consider... The 336BL or Stainless model still have my eye, I've just got to find them so I can handle them a bit...
